I have a 55 Clio Trophy. 88k Miles. It has been written off due to vandalism. All that is wrong with it, is that it has had paint stripper or something thrown over it. Only part of the car is affected, not the whole car, so only a partial paint job is required. There is no mechanical or crash damage. Do I break it or sell it as it is? Or I could even repair it and sell it.
It has been classed as a cat C. God knows why!!! It really is not bad at all.

The car as a whole is still worth more than all the parts at used prices. With 88k on it, it's definitely worth the respray. I'd be surprised if you got less than 1500 for the whole car as it sits.

Its just open in that Pic. The car owes me more that £1500.
I wonder what it is realistically worth? And I wonder if it is worth repairing it?

80k+ trophy's are selling for around 4.5-5k atm. A full respray is a grand? But classed as weitten off.
Please pardon my ignorance here but what happened with the insurance? How much did they give you?

Say it was worth £4750. Take off 20% because it's been written off. Take off a grand for paint, then your at £2800. It will need a new MOT, and a VIC check, there is another £100.
And Either I spend the above money and ask £3800, or I take a sensible figure off of £2800 to make it worthwhile for somebody.

I flat out wouldnt pay 5p for a written off car, in this case it's just paint but when I see cat c or d I just move on.. No one wants to buy them so a struggle to sell...

I think your buyer markets wider before paint... A painter would buy it, a track day lover, someone after a project..

Up the price and turn it back into a full blown driver and you'll be left holding the baby and the costs till the right guy comes alone..

I agree Dave. I would not normally consider a written off car. But it genuinely is just paint. It makes me wonder if the insurance assessor knew the true value of it.
I will probably sell as is.

I bought a written off clio 1.2 as my first car. Had wing damage, repaired, MOT'd, VIC check.. roadworthy, paid a silly low price for it.. why not if it's road legal standard?

spray it keep it,is it in good nick apart from paint and got good service history etc

Going to compare to clio williams today , try and find a fairly decent one now and see what prices are.
When I was young like 18 is I could of had an escorts Mexico 1600 for something like 850 , if only I knew then what I know now

We'll see more and more electric taking over in the years to come, I imagine the older cars prices will go into orbit rather than just through the roof...

My mates dad (who came and bought your ramp) said back in the day, he was buying mk1/mk2 escorts for £80-100 and selling them on for £250-300. And lots of them.

Said it's his biggest regret not keeping any of them.

before i bought it my 182 it had been paint strippered as well all down one side, whoever had it before chose to get it wrapped rather than re sprayed, not sure if it worked out cheaper or what, but has worked in my favour when I've had a few scuffs I just rewrap it myself at home for a fraction of the price of a respray.

I'd just sell it as it is for someone else to sort. Even though i'd happily pay around 2.5 - 3k if it was repaired, i'd still be put off by how it my effect me selling it on in the future.

£2k as is imo, if you spend the £1k to get it painted it isn't worth £3k. Does it have the sachs? what number trophy is it?

most, if not all, insurance company's do not see the T as a special car, and give people 182 prices, which is why some get written off, and in other cases the owners dont put a fight because they do not want it back

i payed £3800 for mine, and then slid on snow and crashed it :( the insurance company was quoting me silly prices, and had to send them adverts of T's, they finally settled on £4800 and then repaired it instead of writing it off

Hold your ground for the Monet you want, a painter or body shop guy will buy it, put in a few days effort and knock the paint up for next to nothing..

A guy I know has a different car each month and does pretty much that.. Always has his ear to the ground for cars he can repair on the side for his time and a few favours from work mates..
