Clio Trophy

Hi Everyone

I just joined today because on Thursday I take delivery of my Clio Trophy, it's super shiney having been PermaGuarded and only has 1900 miles on the clock. I'm pretty excited about it having taken it for a test drive around Arundel on Friday. It's too early to tell yet whether it's going to be more fun than my 205 1.9 GTi but I haven't stopped reading about it and the reviews say it's awesome. I have to admit I thought my little pug was fairly brisk but I think this is going to take cornering to a new level, it really shoves in third gear too, much more linear delivery than the GTi, just keeps piling on the speed.

Anyway, if anyone out there knows someone who is after a 205 GTi, it's for sale. I'll probably cry when I see it go, It's my first car and has been amazing fun. Driving other cars like BMW 5 series and turbodiesels is just so boring and inert I can't wait to get back in it. It's an Alpine White '88 and has just 85K on the clock and is unmodified except for a 57i K&N Induction Kit and Griffiths Engineering Quick Shift which are essential mods without destoying character of the car. It has new gearbox, clutch, discs, pads, coin tray etc...etc...

Just read another article today in Evo about the Trophy keeping up with an M6 on mountain roads. Awesome! Just got to find some mountains and an enthusiastic M6 driver, most seem to be grey haired and half dead.

So excited I think I'm going to be sick.

Welcome to CS.

Glad your enjoying the Trophy, sold my Miami 1.9 for my 182, so I know how good they are, still miss mine now.

Get the 205 for sale over on www.psooc.com, dont tempt me though!

Welcome to Cliosport :D

You'll find the engine will loosen up quite a bit over the next 8000 miles or so, they just get quicker!

Dont forget to add your number to the owners register over on cliotrophy.co.uk

I swapped from a 1.6gti, handling isnt as good due to the heavier lump up front but carrys so much more speed, still great fun, just doesnt have that same feel imo, my gti didnt have power steering, I think power steering robs a lot of feedback and feeling.

you'll love it though, much much more car than the gti.

Thanks for the advice, the last guy removed the trophy decals but I'm putting them back on, any advice on this?

Happy Birthday for tomorrow, by the way.

Keep both for a few weeks and compare the two back to back driving on the same roads in the same conditions. Make interesting reading.

The back to back is a great idea! My first car was a 205 gti 1.6. I loved that car. Pity it was so long ago that I sold it, as I can't really compare it too the trophy.

Your first car was a 205 1.9 GTI and now you're getting a Trophy? Lucky bugger... :rasp:

Hello and welcome

Just wondering why your 'CS Name' is '298/525' when only 500 Trophy's were made?

Tyson.

Hi

525 came out of the Dieppe Alpine Factory, 500 came to Britain and 25 went to Switzerland. None stayed in France, interestingly. So I thought I'd make that my user name.

I'm definitely going to keep the 205 GTI for a while and do some comparisons, my friend is getting insured on it for a weekend and we're going to go and have some fun around West Sussex (The roads around Goodwood and East Dean are great) and take some pictures of the old girl so I've got something to remember it by.

As for the decals, that's what I thought, but each to their own, anyway got them from Renault today (£25 each plus VAT!!!) and they're going on when I pick up the car tomorrow. Luckily it was all he did, only did 200 miles in over a month, spent longer ripping the decals off probably.

The suspense is literally killing me...

Thanks for the explanation. I thought it maybe to do with the 25 that the swiss got, but we are in England, and its the 1st time if have seen someoen say xxx/525.

Do you have any further plans for your Trophy?

That's cool, I only counted them because some of the trophy's from England are getting exported abroad or have been written off and we're not discounting them from the 500 so I thought the total number to leave the factory was more accurate.

We're all working hard today!

My only plans are to get the decals back on and drive it up to Llanberis this weekend, I'm staying in a B&B in Bangor so a quick blast around Snowdonia should be a day's fun. As for mod's, I'll be keeping it standard for the forseeable future, some things are best left alone.

I'm going to find a way of plugging my iPod in though, so I have my driving tunes for when I get bored of the exhaust note. No hurry there then.

Denison Ice Link when you do decide to Plug the ipod in. A few of us on here have gone down that route, full ipod control, manatining stalk and displays.
