Clio with megane 255 engine

  MERCEDES CLS AMG

Dont bother - you will need a complete 225 lump with ECU, manifold, gearbox etc etc - unless you have about £6k to play with i wouldnt bother mate

saying this was to be tried does anybody no whatd be the major problems?i.e mounts and driveshafts?which hubs would you need to use and would new mounts need to be fabricated?

  MERCEDES CLS AMG

use 225 mounts and fabricate the inner wings to take them. The f4r meg 225 engine is more or less identical to that of a 172 engine so the mounts wont be to bad of a problem - use 225 shafts at the gearbox end and then mate them up to 172 outer cv joint ( or cut a 225 shaft in half and weld it up to half a 172 shaft - obviously measure it so it fits correctly ) so you can then use a 172 hub and knuckle with 172 brakes etc.

A lot of fabrication work will be required so if youve never done anything like this before dont even try to attempt it without help from a fabricator or mechanic

( and about £6k )

when we say £6,000, what base clio are we talking?

Fro example, would it be £6,000 to drop that engine into a 1.2 Clio??

Obviously, brakes, shocks, etc would have to eb upgraded too, but toget the engine n box working in a 1.2 would we be looking at £6k still?

Weight-wise...
Whats the difference between the 182 / 225 engine?
Probably 50~100kgs different you could help the weight out by removing weight from the front end ie battery and repositioning it to ensure the car isnt nose heavy.

Anyway fuel economy wont be much better. IMO a diesel would be an interesting conversion the costs wont be much different to install but youll save about 1/2 your fuel bill and with costs not set to drop for a while youll make a good saving.

Theres quite a few engines will fit the 1.9 130hp/ 140hp then there the fun engine the 2.2 150hp model with a remap your looking at 180hp ok no more that you have mow but midrrange it would feel like a 3.5 petrol.

the 2.2 dci engine is horrible. they clog up with crap, there noisy, unreliable and a big. fitting that in a clio engine bay would be fun.

the 1.9dci is so much better in every respect and a good 1.9dci isnt much slower than a 2.2. in fact in all the lower gears you cant really tell the difference. The engine is a lot smaller as well so fitting it would be easier. Also the engine is fitted in megane 2 which has a pretty small engine bay so some parts from megane 2 would be useful when fitting it in a clio engine bay.
