clonking noise from the rear..advice....

Went on a 400 mile roadtrip in my valve but towards the end it developed a wierd rotating clonking noise from the rear, only really happens when i start to pull up ready to stop, i.e pulling up to traffic lights, pulling to a holt etc. My thinking is that the torsion bar could need greasing?!? Otherwise im stumped, id appreciate if you could shed some light on this please people,

thanks, pete

wheel bearings

rear shocks or mounting bushes, both equal new rear shocks

rear trailing arm bearings

check all bolts, calipers, brake pads and discs.

all i can think of at the mo.

Mine does the same thing so youre not alone!
I really dont think its the wheel bearings as Ive had all mine changed and it still does it...
I doubt new rear shocks would be too expensive as you dont need to get springs with them?

im getting it lowered soon so hopefully whilst its rear end is up in the air ill be able to have a good look!!

Phil,

is the noise loud? Mines not too bad but id rather it not be there!

I had the rear bearings, rear disks and pads done for £88(labour) brought the parts from GSF (andyspares.co.uk ). What a bargain.

Sounds great and is a bit more nippy, my rear brakes were FCUKED, now there is a lot more bite!

:)

Could try the exhaust manifold if you get clonking/whirring noises again. I used to get it when I had two or more people in the car, then it got worse so that I had it all the time. All that was needed was a little adjustment and off I went again!

pete - it seems to be getting louder. I having the wheels off this weekend to have a look. Ill let you know what I come up with (if anything) - Im fairly sure its something to do with the brakes tho... Ill post here and probably PM you to make sure - is that ok?

yea mate no probs - hopefully between the pair of us we can suss it out. Its one of those things that puts your mind at slight unease! Ill be having the rears off tmrw me thinks aswell. Look forward to hearing what you find out mate,

cheers, pete

Get the bloody wheels off and have a good look, soon as. Could be as simlple as a loose wheel nut or as much as beam bushes.

Possibly pads come loose, check retaining clips are still in place. Also check torque on caliper bolts and hub nuts.

Could be caliper rubbing on inside of wheel, ive had this just after fitting new pads (moves caliper slightly). Got some 5mm spacers which i needed anyway to increase rear track slightly and cured noise.

Sort it ASAP, cant stress that enough really, dont want something coming loose/off at high speed do you...
