Cold Air Feed Piccies on 172/182 Please

  VRS
picking up 1.5m of 70mm alloy piping in black to use for my viper 2moz.
im going to relocate it to behind the grill seeing as i will be fitting my new bumper and will already be taking it off.
i dont want to lose a foggie so was just wondering whether to go stealth and fix the end behind the grill or whether to cut the grill and put the alloy pipercross inlet in the grill??????
the inlet is black by the way!

can you post up any piccies of 172's/182's with the c.a.f fitted either in the lower grill or behind the lower grill please

cheers

andy

people who put it to the right are defeating the object of getting a good airflow up to the filter, it has to be bent and crushed so much to get it there it won't do a proper job imo

i've taken both fogs out to even up the look, imo if you want the best feed to the filter its the only way

but surely if i take the same route as i would to the fogs but just go nxt to it on the grill there wouldnt be any difference, would there?

yep, pipes and rad, you can't get the pipe to sit flat forward in the grill unless it is majorly crushed and bent, i spent one very cold afternoon trying out all routes, imo this is by far the best, no sharp bends etc

think its worse on a car with air con

ive put mine behind the grill. it works fine u can fell it sucking when u put your hand up to the grill aswell. i have a viper....

but it will be crushed, and makes the feed to the filter alot narrower

it wont get any 'ram' effect at speed, but the air sucked up will be cooler, i ran mine like hat for a few weeks and iit was fine

what about the bit where it pokes through the grill, its has to go through a very very tight bend off to the right

ant

  yep.
not that bad. its just 90 degrees from the back of the trumpet. the pipe is "bent" but it isnt "crushed" anywhere. its flexible stuff.

would you say that this method is more effective in collecting cold air than putting it in the grill?
The air is angled ever so slightly upwards by the vent and the air is also cool down there as well. As many will debate, the ram effect is not present until something like 150+, so for ease I would say this is the best option. I can talk you through it roughly if you like.

couldn't agree more, if its the stock look, i think your rote is perfect, i went abit more hardcore and removed the fogs
