comfy tyres

  clio 172 cup
I have a Renault clio 172 cup. It's very good at being a mental little rocket but not so good at cruising around the city. I don't really know why I bought a cup. I'm not really a racer, But i liked the colour and it looks nicer than the standard sport model.
Anyway. The tyres are all coming to the end of their lives. They're 195 45 16 pireli p-zero nero's. I wont be replacing with the same as i'm not convinced on the wet grip capabilities if i'm honest, and having no ABS means needing confidence in the tyres.

I was just having a think and wondered if there was a tyre without such a strong tyre wall. Prehaps built slightly more for comfort than track thrash. Are the P-zero's renowned for being harsh? I cant really compare as it came with the tyres fitted.

What recomendations would you give for a tyre for what I need. (nice wet grip, comfortable ride).

I realize its never going to be a cruiser, but on my old mk1 golf I was often suprised at the different characteristics of tyres and the effect on the feel.

Really. People dont really seem to talk Pirellis when chatting good performance tyres. They are ok. but i'm not sure I really want to replace them like for like.

RS2's would be stuff as funk for this chaps desires lol.

For a squidgy nasty tyre, try Toyo T1r's :) they only get 'stff' at a 35 profile.

F1's new tyre supplier so that will soon change.

Jason Plato ditches his cars tyres from new & fits Pirelli Corsa's as he rates highly.

There are some other unknown brands but i will keep to myself as i remember 2 yrs ago getting ribbed about Rs2's ;)

How soon the crowd follow :D

neros are crap, you can probably get Michelin Primacy tyres if you're looking for comfort over grip

.

The tyre wall doesnt really contribute much to the ride comfort. If you want a comfy ride then you need a thicker tyre. Thicker tyre = more air to cushion against bumps = smoother ride. 195 45 16. The higher the middle number, the thicker the tyre. But be warned the 172 is designed for that specific tyre diameter, if you start messing with it you will reduce the accuracy of your speedo.

actually Renault Romania only fitted the 172 with 195/50/R15. These were the default tyres for the 172.

  Megane RS 250
I have Re050s but I wouldn't suggest them, the sidewall is stiffer than the pzero nero I had before.
Toyo are usually comfy with those soft sidewalls.

errrrrr sidewall and "thicker tyre" are the same part ;)
But the middle number is simply a %age of the width....
so a 205/45 WONT have the same wall as a 195/45.

Goodyear NTC's of F1's

I used them for years and were great all-rounders.

Only sticking with COnti's on the 172 for, well, frenchness I guess?
