the dvd you are copying from is larger than the dvd you are trying to write it onto, you need to shrink the dvd to the size of a DVDr, there are programs to do this and one of them is included in my text.

Ofcourse you are just backing up the dvd you own right?

no you don't need to format a dvd.

to copy a disk you just need to download something called dvd shrink, once you have opened the dvd in that and burn't it to your hdd it will automatically open nero if you have it on your machine and burn it for you, if you don't have nero you just look for the place it saved the shrunk dvd and use your dvd burning software to burn it.
