Cost of 36k service for 172.

  Audi S3 225
Hey just booked it in at the local renault garage, and its costing 650 quid for for service and cambelt change. They said labour is around 6 hours and if they meet any other problems it may take 2 days.

Im providing my own cambelt kit that i get from andy gdi. Also got a fanbelt and oil filter. got brand new disks and pads that i fitted last week so they wont need to change them saving me a few quid i hope.

Should i put my original airbox on? Just wondering why so much if i got most of my own parts.

cheers Allan

cause Renault dealerships charge excessive amounts!

Find a local reputable garage to do the work for you (preferably one that specialises in renaults if at all possible)

cambelt changes on 172's are expensive, alot of work involved from what i've heard

Even with petrol money it'd cost much, much, much less to come across to visit Mikey at Rentech in Portsmouth ... and he'd do a better job too.

Your only 2 hours from Mike tops and I'm willing to bet he'll do the service A LOT cheaper than that. I travelled from Gatwick area down to him which took just under an hour and a half.

You don't need the cambelt doing untill 72k sevice iirc?

why are you changing the cambelt at 36k? its not until 72k its done? i actually think the £650 isn't that bad for the cambelt change, I think Mike says its around 6/7hours work as well

Change the cambelt early mine snapped on 59k and i had to get a new engine. Trust me thats a lot more expensive..

ffs this is my biggest pet hate on here, cambelt needs doing every 72k OR 5 YEARS :)

I paid 240 quid for the 36k main service but that was without the cambelt change....they quoted me another 300 quid for the cambelt change
