Crappy aux belt service

Car  clio dynamique 1.2 16V
The other day I had my car fully serviced and decided whilst it was in to have the aux belt and the air con belt replaced. This wasnt be a renault dealer but a good usually trusty mechanic.

He did the work and has deffinetly replaced the belts but now the belt is whining like a git!! Sounds like a crappy old car when the fan belt is slipping. My girlfriends father took it back for me today and apparently he just sprayed a bit of WD40 on it and said they "They do it for a while till they bed in"

I think hes talking complete crap!! in my oppinion its not tensioned right. Does this sound about right to any of you?? Do they take time to 'bed' in? Any help would be awsome!!

Iv never come across this because as above its a spring loaded tensioner.

Have they fitted a 6 rib or a 5 rib belt?

If there is a gap on one of the pulleys, is it on the inside?

Hi mate if you can get over to Widnes between half 5 and 7 i will have a quick look for you if your struggling !!!

lol at belt needs to bed in, biggest load of bull ever, some people shouldnt be aloud 2 work on cars

I thought that to really annoyed me! What belt should be fitted to the 1.2 16v engine? I should of just got a hanyes and done the bloody work my self!!

If its a 1.2 16v then it aint sef tensioning, sorry!

They probably just need tightening! Get down there and give then a wiggle see which one is slack.

Hi Mate, I am in Crewe till 5 so would probably get back in to Warrington about 6 so might be a bit late. If I can finish any earlier would you mind me nipping over to see you? Cheers!!

Right, garage says they will have another look at it but the earliest I can get it in there is Friday afternoon and after his bull about the belt settling im in two minds to just F him off! I personally am putting it down to the belt being to loose. The question is, is it a big job to get to the tensioner and second question is....Does any one fancy doing it for me?! :rasp:

if its whining, like a supercharger, sounds like its overtight?

would squeal if it was loose

its not wining, its squeeling, you know the type of sound you hear coming from crappy old cars when the fan belt knackered. lol

Yeah, lol my bad!

I cant see it being a huge job to tension it up on an engine that is the size of a sewing machine haha

I know he is. Really annoyed me! just want it sorting now then at weekend I am going to go on a mission on my interior with anti creek tape and get as many rattles, creeks and squeeks as I can! lol

ok, if this isnt a huge job to tension it and I mean like a 15 - 20 min job is any one free to do it for me? Name your price...within reason!! remember I have just forked out for engine service and belt changes lol

I can come to you or alternativly I can offer tea, coffee and custard creams haha!!

I would happily do it if your were near me.

If its the alternator belt it doesnt have a tensioner, all you need is to slacken the alternator pivot off and tighten the belt that way.

If its the aircon you have to slacken the centre torx 40 bolt off the tentioner and turn the outer 21 mm hex to tighten the belt.

Appreciate that mate. Doing my head in at the moment! Im one of these people that if there is something wrong with my car, I hate it completly until its fixed! lol

Sorry,
I know i am back tracking mate, but i was wondering if, you dont mind telling me, how much it cost to change your belts?
because mine will need doing soon and ive no idea how much it will cost me on my clio!

1.2 is pretty easy, 1-1.5 hours - ish. can't remember belt kit cost.

The belt may need tightening after a while but it don't ever bed in and get better.
When there newly fitted they should be perfect no noise.
