******CUP DAMAGED ALREADY*****

  E36 323i coupe

I dont believe it! I have done 350miles in the car, since I got it and just when I was nearly home I heard this scraping noise coming from the front right of the car. Was really worried cos thought it was the brake calliper scraping on the disc.

I looked under the car and theres this bit of plastic hanging down. The plastic lining of the wheel arch is attached to the front splitter by two screws. These two screws are missing and the scraping noise was this piece of plastic scraping on the road.

Its wrecked... all torn away. Am going to need the whole piece replacing. So either the screws werent there in the first place, or they were put in badly and have fallen out when I have gone over a bump.

Am so annoyed and upset cos have been meticulously careful with the car, and running in speeds and revs and the like, and have waited so long for it.

BLOODY HELL!

Any advice for how I approach the dealer about this? Have only had the car for two and a bit days ffs.

Point out (politely) that it coldnt have been put on properly in the first place, and that in the name of good relations, youd like them to replace it free.

My dealers have been pretty sound on the whole and I have been back countless times in 6500 miles. As long as you dont bite their heads off, they should be fine.

My 172 went in about a grinding noise from the clutch, the guy said he could see nothing wrong with the clutch but the two clips that held one of the front wheel arch covers in place were missing. So it does happen.

Sounds like they have bodged something up when fitting the front splitter which I think is done when the car arrives at the dealership?

Id milk it..ask for a goodwill gesture.

A woman reversed into my car at my dealership last week and the dealer is paying for it (as they parked it on a petrol station forecourt instead of the dealers carpark) and some damage on the car which i caused myself because i kicked up a fuss..£125 worth of damage sorted for free :)

Ah well at least itll get fixed, and you didnt fall out with your dealer - thats important! My dealer replaced both of mine under warranty - one fell off of its own accord, the other had a little help from a cone on a trackday :D
