Cup or full fat???



  Renault clio 182
Hi, just wondering what the differences are between the clio 182's and trying to figure out which one ive got, help would be appreciated 👍

On a 182 the heater control panel is the easiest way to know.

If it's got manual controls then it's a Cup.

All other 182s came with digital controls.

182 Cup's came with the cheapo interior and no real performance benefit over the normal 182.

Digital controls doesn't mean it's a FF though. Just means it's not s cup

There are three possible options, although it sounds like you’ve determined it isn’t a 182 Cup.

Normal 182
Normal 182 with both Cup Packs (full fat)
182 Cup

You're forgetting the green top semi skimmed ie only one cup pack

Real answer is measure the shock to hub bolt spacings, 54mm centre to centre - non Cup suspension, 60mm - Cup suspension. If it has a Cup spoiler, and splitter as well (which it probably won't as they often broke off) then it has both Cup packs ie full fat.

Anthracite alloys also came with cup suspension

When they were new if it had anthracite 182 wheels it had the cup suspension pack. Slightly lower and stiffer springs.
Of course 16 years later somebody could have fitted anthracite wheels or even had them refurbed in a darker colour so it's not always a given that it has cup suspension. Also there's a good chance the cup pack springs will have snapped by now so it's highly likely its got aftermarket springs, which isn't a bad thing. I've just got to 15 and half years ownership and finally got Grams springs which in my opinion are better than the factory fitted springs.
Also, from new again. If you had the 2nd cup pack option it would have had a front splitter and cup spoiler. The majority of front splitters will be snapped by now and you might have the popular Skoda Fabia rubber splitter.

And if a genuine 182 cup you get to have the worst looking seats not to mention a bench in the back.

I always thought Full fat was a normal 182 and a Full fat with cup packs was a thing.

The term Full Fat really originated with the 172. You either got a lighter Cup or the heavier fully loaded 172 and it was christened Full Fat.

I'm not sure that's 100% true? I'm 99% sure it came about after the 182

I'm pretty sure, not 100% though that when I bought my first 172 in 2001, not long after that was when I first saw the term Full Fat. I might be wrong as time fades my memory in my old brain lol.

Yeah I remember being rebuked as I refered to my 172 as a FF. There is no need to call a 172 FF as there were only 2 options - Cup or Normal, where as with the 182 there were 5 :

182 Cup.
182 0% (no packs)
182 Skimmed (Spoiler pack)
182 Semi Skimmed (Suspension pack)
182 Full Fat (Both cup packs)

(6 if you count the trophy, or even more if you count seat and sat nav options etc)

Done some digging. and the first reference to Full Fat with regards to spec, is around late 2004 when a member called DK started using the term a few times when discussing the 182 options. Suspect that's the Genesis.

Earlier in 2003 a member called Potster did mention owning a lardy 'full fat' 172, but I don't believe this was spec related, just using it to refer to his car as the heavier of the 2 172 versions.

Whoever @dk was, take a bow, you coined phrase that's caused a thousand 'is my 182 a FF?' posts.
