Cup pack, 182 (insurance)

My girlfriends sister is just getting quotes for her new 182...

The insurance companies are asking if the car has been modified to the manufactures specification.

It has the cup pack on it... is this a modification to the manufactures specification? as they are saying it is, and will not insure her because she is under 25????

I had a problem with this. When I called Tesco for my initial quote all was fine.

Then a few weeks later I called to ask about the Cup pack and was told that was a modified vehicle and my XS would go up to £500 from £300 and my premium increase would be £184 not £31.50

So I waited a few weeks and called back to take out the updated policy. When the young lady on the phone asked if the car was factory standard, her words, I replied "Its as it left the factory with the Cup options pack" she said, thats fine.

If it came off the production line like that then its standard, the Cup options are covered in the value of the car.

I hope that helps. Im with Tesco.

Told em the same as Lee "standard manuf. fitted".

Am 25: £750 with Privilege, 4 years no claims, 6 points in last 5 years, £350 xs. I pick it up on Thursday. Hurrah!

I told Admiral about everything and made sure it was on their system. I explained it left the factory "modified" and they said it still counted as modified. It only put mine up by £30 so Im not bothered. Better safer than sorry!

Hi

Had the same problem with Bell (Admiral)

See my post

Options not covered by insurance (Or something similar)

After I posted it I rang Tesco who said they covered Options

as long as its manufactures spec then your insurance shouldnt go up. you dont even need to tell them it has the cup pack because its not been modified. it is classed as factory standard.

Its insurance chaos with the 182.

My first quote with Direct Line told me there would be NO difference between a 182 and a 182 with Cup Packs. The only difference is a rise of £20-ish due to the fact the car is newer and its a 182.

When i called back to take out the policy, i spoke to a different guy. When i said it had the Cup Pack, he asked for clarification. When i mentioned what the Cup Pack was, he stated it is now a modified car and my insurance would go up more than £20. I argued the case and said it is a manufacturers fitted option, and not a modification.

In the end he put me on hold while he confirmed with the under writing department. When he came back he confirmed it is not classed as a modification as it is fitted by the manufacturer.

There seems to be real confusion between how different insurance companies, and individual operators interpret the Cup Pack. My 182 costs me around £20 more to insure than my 172 did.

There was an option to record it as "sports suspension as fitted by the manufacturer" or something along those lines.

Sorted my insurance out for my 182 last night. Specifically mentioned the two cup packs, i even described the differences, they said that it is factory fit. So it is going to cost me £9 to change my policy from my 172 to my 182. Just an admin charge really, thats a whopping £1 extra per month. (£540 per year.) Roll on Tuesday morning.

Phoned Direct Line to tell them I was picking up my 182. Told them in detail about the Cup packs.

My insurance cerificate now says:

Suspension - Uprated/Sports (Factory Fit By Manuf)

Spoilers (Front + Rear)

Not Exceeding £250 (Cosmetic Mods)

Make sure you explain it clearly on the phone, its your a**, licence and car that your covering. If they want to charge you too much extra then change to a new company, never leave it ambiguous. The insurance companies rarely loose.

getting my 182 on sat, was on phone to elephant to sort out the insurance, and everything was fine til they asked about mods dont to the car, so i tell them that is has the cup stuff but its all done by renault when the car is being bulit and thats its optical extras and not mods, so they go away for about 10 min and come back and want an extra £150 from the standard 182!!

i told then that most of you guys are only paying an extra £20 or so and im not paying it so now i need to cancel my insurance with elephant and go somewhere else. which company would u guys advise for the 182 and who know about the cup upgrade?

im 26 and have 7 years ncb have driven high powered cars from the age of 17 and the car is off road and electronic gated parking with cctv, what should i be paying?? elephant quoted £910

Well how about this then....

Mentioned that i had the CC option on my 172 Cup....the insurance company said...that will be and extra £60 please.

Asked them to justify it...they said it is a modification....so therefore is subject to being charged for. Needless tho say the end of the story is happy and they admitted they were being stupid and did not charge anything..(could have been something to do with the fact the policy had not quite started yet and i told them i would go elsewhere)

I mean come on CC....hardly performance enhancing...

Im 28, no points 10 years no claims. Direct Line classed the cup and spoiler pack on my 182 as modifications even though they were fitted by the manufacturer and wanted an extra £50 on to my old 172 policy. £558 in total.

Jeez Im paying £700 with Privilege (CIS wanted £1200) and Im 34, clean licence, full ncb - so its either because Im female or that I live near London that Im being ripped off by insurance companies...

Privilege also had a problem with the Cup suspension pack and had to go to the underwriting dept to confirm. The options are listed on the certificate although state they were manufacturer fitted.

just tried direct line- they wanted £1064, i mean i was only paying £1000 for my z3m coupe valued at £33000, with a 3.2l 325bhp engine!

what the hell is going on.

one question- how much is does the cup suspension lower the car by?
