Cup vs 172 argument

This old chestnut again...............

I know everyone keeps going on about this boring age old argument, but if the 172 and Cup are meant to have exactly the same engine spec why does the 172 red line at 6750rpm (indicated on rev.counter) and the Cup at 7250 rpm (indicated on rev. counter)? N.B. I know max. power is reached at 6250 rpm

Do my eyes deceive me or can anyone explain why this is so pleae?????

Wait for the flak........................

It doesnt redline at 6750rpm!!!

Some early rev counters had the redline marked at 6750rpm, we had this discussion about 16 months ago.

The engines are identical.

The cup has air con as an option.

The ecus are diffrent as the cup does not have some of the features of the 172 that the ecu would control.

So the power output and torque output are the same.

Red line does not equal limiter. The regular 172 does not get limited at 6750. Just a thought - I know nothing really!

Personally Id have picked a different title if you didnt want flak!

my redline is marked at 6,750 also, but i have no idea what revs it was doing when the limiter kicked in.

They should all (when warmed up) be limited to 7250rpm in 1st, 2nd & 3rd, then 7000rpm in 4th & 5th apparently!

I have read on another forum that the Cup engines are benchmarked to 172BHP and the 172s arnt? Is this true? I would have thought that they are all made on the same production line.
