Dash lights , changing smd's

  looking for 172 cup
Hi im new to clios ( used to have an escort cosworth) and fancy changing the dash colour of my newly aqired 172 cup.
I used to repair the escort cosworth eletroluminesent dash ( still do refurb them) so fancy a change to the clio.
Has anyone changed their dash to blue but with red displays and needles?
Can you get white dials for the clio as i could convert them to light up like the cosworth ( with e/l material so they glow)
Thanks in advance Brendan:up:
Any pics

I've changed mine to white with blue display. Also changed the climate control panel to blue. Matches my alpine head unit perfectly. Fairly easy job mate

I did white and Blue first time around. White dials and Blue LCDs.
I also did all the switches in white

I wasnt so keen on the blue LCDs so did all white this time. Which still has a light blue tinge to the LCD.

How hard is soldering is? Do you need doing this in clocks and climate control? Or in clocks are normal bulbs?

Clocks are normal bulbs, but have an orange filter that needs changing (or sanding so the orange coating is removed). It's hard to get decent match as LED bulbs project to brightly on to the back of the screen and standard blue bulbs are unlikely to match colour exactly.
The climate also has a orange filter IIRC but does work with LEDs so colour match is fine.
Soldering is fairly easy but needs a needle nose ideally, and temp control makes it easier to not melt the smds.

I did the clocks in my PH2 megane coupe, hardest part was pulling the dam needles off, LEDS are a bit small too, i also did the indicator arrows on the dash from green to blue, and the flashing alarm/imob light blue

I use a fork. Slides either side of the motor spindle.

You need to stick some tape down where the fork rests against the dial face though, to avoid scratching it.

Theres a lad called stampede that prowls forums, he charges around £160 for the full smd conversion, he must be loaded!

£160?!? Its about 80p's worth of LEDs and about 30 minutes to do both the speedo and climate panel.

I've got two spare sets of both laying around so might do them and flog em for silly money if that's what people are paying

Depends what is included in that price. Ie removal and refitting parts or just postae and self install. Also would be all switches etc and be guaranteed.

30 minutes to do the climate and clocks, that must be a tease, that's removing snd soldering an SMD in under a minute! I've done white clocks with red displays, looks great and very oem. Also did all the switches, radio etc. Does take some good few hours to do it properly.

Under a minute per SMD? Easily!

Maybe to someone who has never soldered surface mount stuff before, then yeah it might be a struggle

The person that charges £150+ that is him fitting and supplying the parts, he does travel to you if its a group buy too.
