DCI 80 black smoke, laggy, would like help.

  Clio dci 80
Hi, checked the search for this one.

My DCI 80 is starting to play up. Sometimes at about 2000 rpm (not seen it elsewhere in the rev range, but hasnt been doing it for long) when I increase throttle it will stay at about 2000 rpm for 1-2s and then all of a sudden I get a kick in the behind from the turbo kicking in. Just before this happens I can see black smoke coming out of the exhaust. Is my turbo on its way out? Mileage is currently about 63k.

Thanks!

It's a little bit of unburnt fuel making it's way out.

Could be a dying catalytic converter.

Usually happens when you remap a diesel, nice little touch I find  It is a message for those behind (see you later, here have something to remember me by:clown:) not so much with the Renault DCis though :dead:

Sounds like the turbo adjuster is blocked or the sensors playing up most likly the wastgate is blocked. What what should happen is it adjusts so that you have the right amaount of boost all the time. If it gets stuck then the car reasiles it doesn't have the right amount of boost and puts a bit more fuel in which due to there not being enough air means black smoke then the adjuster sounds like it works for you and away you go the turbo adjusted gives more boost then gives you the right amoutn fo air which combusts with the fuel.
If the EGR is blocked usually its slow all the time. but your right EGR valves are a pain.
Black smoke means fuel isn't being burned but it sometimes is a necesitity to get the turbo to spool quicker.

Black smoke? Laggy?

Aren't they the fundamentals of oil burners?
To some degree yes but it can be minimised to almost nothing my car puts out no smoke that anyone has ever told me about. Its usualy inefficent engines ie
poor servicing
ones which arn't booted enough (particle build up)
ones with the dust collecters removed
badly tunned ones
or ones which are tunned to death do this.

Thanks for your help so far. Just to give you an update, Nationwide have had it for two days and could not find out what's wrong with it - so now I have to get it to Renault to have it diagnosed. So much for 'recommended' repair companies. :/

Hope it's the turbo adjusters, I think that would pretty much be the only thing that's covered...
