de-locking etc...

My mate has a smoothed uno turbo, de-locked and de-handled using solnoids (or whatever they are) under the mirrors, went in for its MOT and failed because there must be a handle on both doors and a lock on at least the drivers door if they are fitted as standard, the handles are required incase of an accident and getting the driver etc. out, bloke said unless he replaced the handles he wouldnt get an MOT! Anyone else had this problem?

talking crap about the delocking at least, mines been through two mots at the same place, once with locks second time without!

This is what I found on the page which covers items tested during the mot

Doors

Open and close. Latch securely in closed position. Front doors should open from inside and outside the vehicle. Rear doors may need to be opened to gain access to testable items.

I heard that there must be one external lock for the MOT, it doesnt matter where it is so long as theres one on the outside, my mates just had his Civic done and thats what the told him, so he had the lock fitted under the rear bumper, so it was hidden. If you look at the new Clios they have one external lock on the passenger door, and none of them need door locks now.

people are saying different stuff about weather it will pass mot.

If it fails, then try somewhere else, preferably ask them if it will fail for it before getting it booked in.

there is an organisation that sets the guidelines for what is in an mot, unfortunately i dont know there name, might be worth asking them.

i think you also need one mechanically operated way of getting in, not electric (switch or remote). Im interested in getting my car de locked and de handled. Ill have a look on some custom car sites and let ya know.

so if you kept the bootlock would that be ok? I wanna delock mine and i dont trust the old alarm fob, if the battery goes!

DOH

I have took all the handles off my 16v and both door locks whilst it has been off the road for 8 week and the test run out 7 week ago so i am gonna test it then if it fails for that just get a Special £45 MOT Cert.

I have delocked both my doors !! However i left the boot lock on, just incase the battery dies !! No probs with the mot !!

If you revove all external door handles then you are asking for trouble, when it comes to mot time. There must be at least one visable means of entering the car, via a non electrical release ( ie door or boot handle/ lock mechanism)

if you had the time you could try and hide the handles like on a GT turbo, but that is serious hassle
