Decat for Ph1 172?

  BMW E46 330i Touring
Where's the best place to get one from and how much should I expect to pay?

Had a search on Yozza but they only seem to do them for the later RS's.

Janspeed.

Available direct or from motorsportworld.

Got some at cost last year and sold them on:D

Would be easier to get something made up though so you can just bolt it off and on for MOT time. 172 mk1's are a bit of a bugger to fit/take off.

Is it something that needs to be made 'right', or could my local Powerflow monkeys knock something up for me relatively easy?

Well the 172 mk1 cat is designed to bolt on the same as the de-cat would.

Therefore if you had a downpipe made and then a de-cat pipe that's easily bolted on and off you would have to get a cat that was the same size when it comes to MOT time... if that makes sense.

Here's a crap pic i've drawn in paint which kinda shows it lol.

The silenced de-cat I have includes the downpipe so does the standard twin cats.

If you had a downpipe made up allowing you to just simply bolt and unbolt a de-cat pipe then you would have to get a cat that was the same size (without the downpipe). Do 182 cats have the downpipe built in?

the de cat is easy to fit if u have a pit! thats my piece of useless advice! ;-) powerflow could make u one for about £60. Deffo get one tho, i seen a marked improvement! Very loud though!

Yeah, I fancy going loud now! My exhaust / IK combo gives off an awesome burble and sounds really meaty but I feel like being childish again and amplifying it!

I'm kinda mates with the guy that does my MOT's, so I'm sure he could change the cat over before putting it through the test... might pop in to my local powerflow place.

Lol, if he ran the garage then maybe!

So looking at your drawing Chris, would I need to get the cat cut out of the exhaust, and then fit a de-cat which could then be unbolted, with the original cat bolted back in?

I might be looking at having this done.

You would basically remove your 172 mk1 cat which stretches up to your manifold.

You'd get a custom exhaust place to create you a downpipe and then you could buy a 182 de-cat and 182 cat which is basically a straight pipe (without the downpipe attached) so it's easier to remove and put back on come MOT time.
