Decat on a 182 Cup (info)

Hi Everyone,

This is a thread about the ins and outs of fitting a decat to your 182's on to a standard exhaust system. I fitted mine last nte and below is the low down on the whole process.

Had the car up on the ramp last nte and was reaslly supprised on how easy it really is to change the cat when still using a stock exhaust. Undid the 3 bolts and it was strait off. From start to finish it took me 15min and im not a mechanic.

I have also weighed the pipes so you can see the difference in weight:

Origional cat:
11lb (4.98Kg)

Decat:
3lb (1.5Kg)

GDI Decat:

Here is a pic of the origional cat still on the car:

Here is a pic of the cat removed:

After leaving my mates garage and driving the car it felt a lot more responsive and punchy through the gears. It tends to pull lower down and run a lot smoother.

Sound wise it has given the exhaust note a little rasp which sounds very nice but i struggle to hear it clearly over my induction noise.

All in all a worth while mod for the 182

Hope this thread will be of help to some of you.

*With thanks to Maddog for the decat and my mate for letting me borrow his ramp*

not really, as the only reason I took it to my mates place was couse he had exhaust sealent, I removed the cat at my house first (reolised i didnt have sealent) then put it back on and that was whilst the car was on axle stands. So it is pretty easy eather way :)

Yes it is. It's a piece of piss.

The only hard part is having to get under the car - Which is made ten times easier when you have it up on ramps.

If only the 172 cat was so simple :-(

My two bolts connecting my decat from the engine side are rattling like mad, but they are tight so not rattling due to looseness. Have the gaskets gone?

When i installed my decat it came with two new bolts... i decided not to install them and keep the origional bolts with the springs as they seemed to do a better job. A friend of mine who has a decat to had fitted the bolts that came with the decat and is experiancing exhaust leek issues.

is it advisable to get new gaskets and bolts when fitting a de-cat to the 182, im in the market to purchase one but want to know the ins and outs first!!

try doing it on a 172 with only the standard jack then you'll know why they moved it on the 182.

Its a b**ch.
