Desperately need help...2 out 4 wheel bolts sheared

  Breaking A 172 Replica
Hello guys,

I purchased my car last saturday and I was told about a missing bolts as it had been sheared off. The passenger side front wheel was only being held on by three bolts. I was going to get it sorted this morning but unfortunately I was unable to meet up with clioruss who had the correct tool.

So I undid the three bolts today jsut to check I wouldn't be able to get the sheard one out. I had a go but I could not get anywhere near enough hold on the bolt to move it. So I put the wheel back on and I was tightening up the bolts as I had done last saturday and suddenly one snapped off again. It was the one opposite the previously sheard one.

So I now have a car with 2 out 4 bolts holding the wheel to the hub. I obviously can't drive it like this.

What do you suggest? Does anyone have the tools to get them out? Is it possible to take the hub off myself and get them out that way?

Thanks

Sam

id seriously replace all the wheel bolts on all the wheels!

try a drill and reverse drilling into the end, it should losen it up as it drills into it

If you can drill a hole across the bolt, and insert a long thin rod and use that to undo them.

p.s. I have a bagfull of bolts if you need some.;)

I am going to get some pics up right now.

One is sticking out by 0.5cm and the other is in the hub by about 1cm.

This reverse drilling thing... How do I do this?

Thanks

yeah easy

hammer and a punch

put the punch tip towards the outside edge of the snapped bit, then tap the snapped stud round anticlockwise, easy

A punch? what does one of those look like and where would I go about getting one? You mean hit the punch with the hammer yeah? I am confused :s

From a DIY store, its a bit of steel with a sharp end, the other end you hit it with the hammer. Normally used to m.ake a dent before you drill something. Wickes so them for £1.99 with a nail punch trown in

Oh right, I know what you mean now - Dad's got a set of them I think.

Ok but surely I will need to hit it from the other side?

And you say tap it Anti-clockwise, but how do I get the turning motion going?

Thanks

Right ok.

I will give it a go but surely it will be stuck won't it?

As in too stiff to move like that andI won't be able to get enough on the bolt to shift it?

mate slowly tap it round it aint gonna turn a full rotation on one hit..
put it as close to the edge as possible or if u can catch the side of the nut and hit it in the same spot so i will turna nd eventually fall out..other option get a spare socket weld it to the sheared peice and use the welded socket with a ratcher or summit to get it out..

Fred was that exactly to sexual paul or to Big Iain's thread?

How should I go about taking the disc out?

Thanks

Ok the good news is I got the one out using a slightly modified version of Fred's method.

But how do I get the other ones out (the one that is not sticking out from the hub)

Thanks

Sam

Ok I have been trying to work on this all night...

The bolt that is a fair way into the hub is sticking out by about 3/4 inch the other side of the hub.

What do I need to undo to be able to access the back of the hub?

Thanks

Sam
