Detailing Chat & Questions Thread

sorry if this is a stupid question but once you have used bumper care on the black plastics can you then use a wax on them to help them keep colour? i dont want to try it and then turn them all white was just hoping someone else has tried it

thanks
chris

typically no. there are some that are called trim safe, but this is more a case of you can get it on trim, wipe it off and it won't leave white stains.

some trim dressings just make them look black, others actually protect them, and resist dirt. Im presuming your using autoglym bumper care? looks nice initially but I didn't find it protect all that well

Yeah I'm using the autoglym bumper care it's the only stuff I've ever really used. Looks good for the first week or so then dyes off. Is there anything you can recommend that's not silly money that will protect and offer a longer finish

from the ones I've used autofinesse revive has proved to be very good for non permanent dressings

I'd heard the bouncers were trim safe but wasn't brave enough to try

Been absolutely baffled today

Had a red honda jazz to valet for an old lady earlier. She was asking about the faded paint.

I assumed with it being Japanese paint that it wouldn't take much for it to be restored.

So I cracked on with the bonnet, 3m blue pad on the DA with some srp... No difference

So I tried the rotary with blue pad again and ultrafina... Nothing

I then went for wool pad, fast cut+, then scholl s17+, then megs #101

Absolutely none of the combos I tried made a difference, really annoyed me. I've never come across faded red paint that can't be revived before

What's going on? Is there something I didn't know about honda red?

I did notice that not much colour was transferred to the pad. Maybe it has faded underneath the clear coat, and isn't just mixed in with it like the vauxhalls usually are

Angry :(

A couple questions about decontaminating, I've got neilson tar and glue remover and I'm going to get some iron x, is it better to de-iron first or de-tar first, or does it make no difference?

when reading about tar and glue removers theirs alot of warning about trims getting damaged, on 182's do people cover the trims of just wash them off before any damage can be caused?

What's the best way to apply these products and remove?

Do you cover all the car including roof, window etc or do you just concentrate on the lower half of the car and alloys?

Tar remover will be fine on the exterior trims mate, you don't really spray it everywhere, mostly lower half, bonnet and back glass. I don't spray the roof or above the window line on the sides.

De-tar, then power wash off, then IX, then wash/snowfoam then clay the entire car.

Iron X should be used on every painted panel including rood mate, doesn't matter if you catch the glass or anything. Both products are actually quite safe.

Brilliant! Thanks for that gally.

I read that you need to have the car dry before spraying on the tar an glue remover for best results, is this the same with IX?

No tar remover works just aswell on a semi wet car, helps the Tar remover stays wet rather than drying in to the paint.

IX use again on wet or semi wet car, helps the product run better and also not dry in as quick so continues to work.

What have I done...

:banghead:

Need to find out how to take this to New Zealand now...

Might be worth mentioning, don't leave either on too long to dry, they go streaky and you might have to reapply to remove it.

Thanks for the advise chaps :)

Just need to pull my finger out and get the stuff ordered now!

looks like Christmas has come early dan! Where did you order that lot from?

Most of it was packed away in the garage which I managed to find a stash of loadsa stuff, but the top row like the wax, shampoo, iron x, clay, quik detail i got off here, ebay and i4detailing.

When you order from i4d you get a bit of bubble gum, thought that was a nice touch haha

Haha, I'm going to order a few bits from i4detailing soon, they seem to be the cheapest about, especially with the Cs discount.

What's the best discount code for i4detailing?

If you use 'DWX' you get 7.5% off, that's from detailing world

How much do we get with 'cliosport'? Just says it varies, anyone used it?

Same discount mate. I'd order everything from Matt if I could.

Quick question, I'm sure will be easy to answer from someone used to detailing! I now have a DA & intend to wash, Iron X, wash, then use the DA with AF Tripple followed by AF Tough Coat. Car, my daughters PB 1.2.
I have Hex Logic pads & there are 3 of them- Orange Medium Heavy Cutting Pad, Green Heavy Polishing Pad & Black Finishing Pad. My question is do I use these pads with the Tripple in order Green, Orange Black a bit like using grades of Wet & Dry paper? With the Tough coat should I just use this by hand or use the DA again?

Thanks for any replies

Think you need to read autofinesse's instructions on application and how they work.

tripple is not a polish. It is a cleaner, filler and light protection. If used with a DA use it with the softer pads, in your case, the black pad.

tough coat is wiped on, left to cure, and buff off.
