Diesel 182Cup? Almost!

What a spanner. I pulled off the M6 on Friday on my way home. It's a 180m journey and I was funked.

So. I rolled up beside the pumps and made my way to the BP Ultimate dispenser. I stick it in my Clio and pull the trigger. As always there is a short delay. I think these days they do ANPR on the car before releasing the fuel? Anyway...I'm standing there waiting and my hand starts itching so instinctively I look down at it and I notice the word "Diesel" on the pump handle. Just as my rusty sheriffs badge contracts, the pump activates...I dont think my hand has reacted so quickly since I accidentally hit the vinegar stroke on my last w**k.

A splash of diesel enters the tank, the rest ends up on my shoes, with a few dribbles running down the side of my car. If my hand had not started itching, I would have unloaded 40 squids worth of diesel into my 182Cup :dead:

Mind you, according to The Khunt, it would probably have been a lot faster as a result ;)

The torque surge over the 13rpm rev range would have been astonishing.

LOL. It will probably get quite diluted, but will it affect the engine at all?

It has been sounding a bit gruff, but that might be in my head. The tank is almost empty now. Tomorrow I'll load it up with V-Power. That'll learn it :approve:

The moral of the story is - remember that Ultimate 97 pumps are VERY similar to Ultimate diesel pumps.

I thought it was diesel nozzles you couldn't get into petrol cars anyway - or is that the over way around? Or is it on newer pumps only?

I thought that too. Nozzles are usually bigger, plenty of people put petrol in their oil burners but never once heard of anyone putting diesel in a petrol :S

Close one there - I am really paranoid at pumps in my 306 after my old chap decided his derv van needed some unleaded! Never a problem with the 182 as it only ever gets Optimax.

I only ever use V-Power or BP Ultimate. The one time I was forced to use 95RON, the emissions light came on for 2 days and the car felt like s**t.

my dad qaurter filled an escort van with unleaded once, he rang his mechanice who said just fill it up with diesel and every few miles keep topping up, and the van was a bit spluttery but after 1 tank it was fine!
