differences of a 172

Hi guys,

Firstly just like to say that i havnt got my clio yet, and im waiting for delivery 10 days left!!! But ive been lookinh at the 172s and the standard dynamics, in terms of external features, are the only differences; colour coded bumpers, strips ect, and 1" larger alloys, and the front grille?

Obviously i know that under the bonnet is a different story!!!!

Are there any other obvious differences in appearences??

oh only looking at the cars in pic not in the flesh so makes it harder to differenciate

The 172s are also 20mm lower IIRC.. skirts aswell... interior seats in alcantara/leather (still visable)

dont forget that you could tell from the back by the width of the tyres too and the sport badge..

front wings are more flared..

Xenon headlamps are a huge giveaway (when on!)

Brushed aluminium 2.0 16v badges on sides

Think thats about it visually - including what has already been said

Before I got mine, I thought there was very little difference visually between it and non-172 models, but now I can spot a 172 in the distance. They are quite easy to spot when you know what to look for. They just look fatter and lower - sort of

Yeah initally i thought they were similar but Mk2s imparticular look noticeably different, and better

so quite a few then, its a surprise you dont see look-a-like 172s then - not saying thats what i want to do by the way!!! As the differences sound like they can be changed on non-172 car, or are the wings and the bumpers hard to change??

Its all easy but it costs money to buy the parts, paint and then fit. Then at the end of the day everyone will hate you for having a fake!

dont think they would be that hard but another giveaway is the colour, mk2 172 have different colours to the rest of the range (except the black) the red, silver and blue are different shades to the rest of the range

yer i saw the blue, i think the 172 blue is awsome... allot nicer than the standard blue

obviously the cup is another blue again, looks great when its clean and polished and a sunny day, shame they dont do it for a standard 172

172 and the cup have the same bodypanels, the cup has a bigger boot spoiler and a black chinspoiler on the front bumper different alloys (multispokes) and then the spec is different no xenons, no abs no aircon no headrests no leather or side airbags or spare wheel thinner glass etc etc its the lighter weight version and about two grand cheaper than the std 172 and it only comes in blue (the lighter metalic blue kind of an electric blue)

im not guna answer that as there is normally a fight on here when this question get brought up, but from my experience there isnt really much in it in the real world, me and cbscup (christian) who posts on here had a fair few races upto about 130mph at one point and there was nothing in it, he even posted to that effect but its a bit contravertial

Think the stats are something like 0-60 in 6.7 for Cup, 6.8 for Mk1 172 & 6.9 for Mk2 172 but these change from site to site / magazine to magazine etc.

Many cups seem to have more power than the brochure suggests too

One bloke on here was getting 184bhp from his standard cup!

I am going to be politicaly correct to save from above said arguments..

The Cup is a raw stripped out version of the 172, no luxuries but you get the raw race car feel, ideal for the "street cred" and the odd track days chucked in..

The 172 is for someone who likes a bit of performance, is mainly gonna use it for commuting and wants the luxuries, can be put on a track but is not as well suited as the cup.

difference between 172 + base models is:

Different front arches, different front and rear bumper, side skirts, colour coded door handles + side strips, Xenons with headlight washers, spoiler, 16" alloys, big brakes, lower suspension, leather + Alcantara, dials bit different, toys eg gear shift light, ejector seat, rocket launcher, optional Clio Williams toasting capabilities (equipped on mine )

Paddy how much was that Williams toaster? Not sure if I need one yet.......but I am sure my time will come .
