Disassemble Centre Console 182

Hey,

Wanting to take apart my centre console to hide my iPhone charger and aux cable, thinking of routing it through the ashtray as it never gets used.

Done a search but nothing came up.

Thanks

can reach behind radio from glovebox side, then pop astray out and pull cables through - no need to dismantle dash

As above. If you remove the audio system, you will see the space behind it and the cable will go through to the hole where the glovebox door latches in. It will go/fit there and into the glovebox and its out of sight also. I've done it with 3 Connects2 systems on 2 Mk2 and 1 mk3 system.

I used to have my aux cable coming through the hole in the glove box but I'm looking at moving the cables closer to the gear stick area.

Aux Setup by Simon_89, on Flickr

Got a few things for Xmas to allow me to listen to my iPhone a bit easier in the car, this cable utilises an aux cable and charger into a dock.

I removed the cigarette lighter, covered any exposed metal on it to prevent any possible short circuits. I then fed the cables through the hole, rerouted the original aux cable down behind the head unit and to the area beneath the cup holders. Using a twin female audio connector I simply joined the wires up that attach from the aux cable that plugs into the back of the head unit and the aux cable from the iPhone dock and hey presto an audio solution that charges and plays music whilst not having cables all over the place

I've done a similar thing but got the cable coming through between the cup holder and ash tray... like the ikdea of using the cigi lighter hole though!

I never use the cig lighter for anything other than charging my phone, so if need's be I could use a USB extension cable in place of the additional iPhone cable.

Thinking about putting a grommet over the hole and drilling a suitably sized hole just to prevent the cables from rubbing on the plastic.

You'd have to slit the grommet to fit the plugs through but then you wouldn't see the slit

Or if the grommet was large enough to just protect the cables it would be fine I think, something to do over the next week :)
