Discovered my 172 is an Import

  Citroen DS3 DSport
I'm not sure. For now I've said I'll return the car but I'm not 100% sure that's what I really want to do. Do you reckon £6350 is a fair price for a imported 02 172 with 33k miles on the clock? On looking online the same dealer are charging closer to £8000 for the same spec of car but at obviously UK spec.

It is a good price... If the cars good it would be a shame to hand it back over a £300 alarm. Maybe let the dealer sweat a bit and see if they back down a bit over the alarm.

i think its a good deal as theres bugger all difference in them. just think its lighter without the alarm ;) lol

When will people realise that if its an EU vehicle then it IS NOT an import. Where exactly do you think these cars are made? They are all made in the same damn factory. The only difference is that UK cars come RHD with alarms and wheel nuts (and they are fitted at the dealer).

I take it you haven't read the 7 pages on this thread about the difference in specs between UK and Non UK Spec?

All I'm looking for is agreement from them to pay for the alarm and all is good. The salesman has just phoned me and requested that I fax him the alarm fitting quote and he'll see what he can do.

It is an import mate . Phone Renault UK and they will tell you that also .
I'm on my second import , difference being no alarm , no window etchings and no locking wheel nuts .
Also the warranty is only 12 months if it was from a dealership in Holland or if it was destined for Cyprus .
If its from EU , it will have the full 3 year warranty and full 3 year AA assistance from the time it entered the country .
I bought my 182 just over a week ago but entered the country in October last year , delivery mileage .But because its been here for 3 months it only has 33 months warranty left and 33 months AA assistance .

If you call Renault UK customer service and give em your vin number they will tell you exactly what you are or are not entitled to and the origin and where the car was destined for .

Mr.Billy, did you get the AA cover then? Only ask because mines an import (motorpoint) but no mention of it.

Got 3 years warranty, but no AA.

MrBillyUK !

Cheers for that.

Anyone else with an import told the same?

I'm also an EU-sourced, Motorpoint-supplied owner and wasn't aware of the AA cover... Was actually thinking about buying some cover before the next long distance trip I do - think I'll be on the phone to Renault UK instead! When I bought it I was told I had 12 months warranty and had to apply to Renault UK for my 24 month extension. Which i did, only to be told I already had my full 3 year warranty :S . But turns out my car arrived in the UK 2.5 months before it was registered, hence I got 33.5 months warranty

An update for all those people who haven't lost the will to live due to reading this thread previously and who continue to come back for more :D

I'm keeping the car. The dealer came to an agreement regarding the alarm and locking wheelnuts. All is good and I'm finally happy to say I own the car. Phew!!!!!!

ill need to phone renault uk too then. see if i have the full 3 years warranty and aa cover. i took out extended garuntee with the dealer thinking it was only 2 years as standard so will that extended warranty extend onto the end of the 3 years ?? or is it now non-existant if i do infact have the standard 3 years warranty ?

  Brisol my lover..
Theres nothing wrong with imports you just dont get a few bits and bobs, see loads come into the dealership where i work... just remember if you same 20% at the front then you will lose this + all the way down the line on a import so no diff in end price than anyother car because you saved the money at the front and then lose it at the end, but some people get upset because they save at the front and then want the same as a uk car at the end, just doesnt happen.....

It's here to stay now and I'm happy with that :) I can now stop moaning in this thread and give you all peace :D

If Renault UK say you have a 3 year warranty i would get in contact with the dealer who sold you the extended warranty asap .Maybe they didn't know you might have the full Renault warranty , or maybe they sold you a warranty thats worth nothing. Then i would demand a refund or take it to the trading standards if they are unwilling to co-operate .
Let us know what the outcome is .

  Clown Car
After reading through this thread i started to get a bit suspicious about the 182 i have just bought as whether it is a uk car or not because the vehicle is missing the window etching and the 'ISR' stickers, also the Renaultsport handbook is missing, my car does have the renault locking wheelnuts and the alarm is fitted but not working, red led off, also noticed the fuse cover clip broken under bonnet, windscreen washers packed up just after i got off motorway(no fluid) (B*stards).

The alarm fitted to my car is a different type (7887 Compact) to my brothers car, also he has plastic scuff plates on the in side of the sill where as mine does not, his car was registered in march 05, and mine in september 05.

A quick phone call to RCS did confirm mine was a UK car and not an 'import' , and that sometime in 2005 Renault stopped Etching windows:(
they also could not find the Renaultsport handbook on their system.

Right i can get some sleep now:sleepy: :sleepy: :sleepy: :sleepy:

I'd recommend you get alot of those faults fixed under the warranty Mark.

I do have RenaultSport scuff plates on the inside of the sill, that's one thing my import did come with as standard :D

:) Thanks Simon I'm delighted with the car and I'm now having a look for a new stereo for it, selling my Blaupunkt DAB53 as I quite fancy a change of HU.

Alarm will be fitted next week, opted for a Viper system :)

Hi all

I originally posted this thread, and just wanted to let you know that the HPI check that i picked up last night stated it was not an import, I called Renault Uk today and it is imported from the Netherlands (how does that work). So had to call my insurance company and basically i will need to get a CAT1 alarm fitted to fulfill the insurance criteria. My wife is now contacting the dealer (god help them!!!!) so will see if i can get them to fit an alarm as i feel like i have been shafted.

Still loving the car though

I would demand some money back as an import is worth less than a UK car.

Hope you got it for a good price.

^^^ Don't talk silly . Have you got any proof they are worth less than so called UK models ?? Its the same car , made in the same factory , just no cobra alarm ( 18 month warranty ) , no locking wheel nuts , etched windows on earlier RS models .

Solution :

Buy a cat 1 alarm with a lifetime warranty and some locking wheel nuts , job done.

Don't bother about etching the windows as the later RS models didn't have the windows etched anyway UK or imported .

Just heard back from the dealer that they will pay for the Alarm to be fitted. So will call Renault and get it booked in. I guess im pretty lucky, although they didnt really have a leg to stand on. Also the fact that my wife is a nutter when something isnt right also helped i guess.

My 172 is an import aswell but was sold to the lad i bought it off as a new UK car. its not stated on the log book as being imported, but when itook it to reno they said it must be cos my plate was not in their system. makes no difference to me like, still the same car, made in the same factory.

Hi Sneeks

I too found out that mine was a Netherlands import today and i have only had the car for over a week. I went back to the dealership and advised them that i had taken advice from trading standards that technically they should know fully about the car and its origins and that i wanted them to pay for an alarm which they are doing.

Im assuming that your car has no alarm and basically like my insurance company they require a Thatcham approved CAT1 alarm as part of the insurance deal. As most non-imported cars came with an alarm means that your insurance assume that your car is fitted with this alarm.

The car is no different to any other UK-spec car apart from the alarm, window etching and locking wheel nuts.

Tell the dealer, you want an alarm fitted which is about £250.00 and a certificate to prove it, or you wont buy the car.

Apart from that im still loving the car.

My local dealer (Kings of Taunton) bought a black 182 off a customer as part-ex, not knowing that it's an import.

Owned.

  Black 172
My car is also an import, i bought mine with a toad alarm already fitted. Mine didnt have an alarm on it, which obviously shows you it is an import. You cant always tell a car is an import. Mine is an 03 plate so wont have any warranty. So whats the big deal if its an import. As long as they are looked after there is no problem
