Ditching my viper !

  A4 oil burner !!!
and gonna revert back to standard airbox and paper filter !
From all i have read and been told there really isnt much difference.
My viper has a CAF going down to behind the lowest front grill and IMO i dont really notice any difference.
Thought about a ITG panel instead but at £44 ish sounds a bit steep and for what ?
I know Fred raves about the viper but TBH i cant notice the gains.
All im running is the viper, ktec stealth2,AWT matched manifold & superchip
havent had it RR'd since i had my old magnex and no AWT and it got 174.6 bhp !
Not sure what it is now but cant be much more. So am i making a wise decision in ditching the viper in favour of the OE items ?

  Clio 172
Yes go back to standard but I'd get a panel filter - any is fine. Just compare the paper to the cotton/foam and you'll see why you paid £35-£44 depending on what filter you go for.

Yeh probably a waste of money unless you want a cool induction sound.dunno if the viper even makes one thought lol.

  80MPG BEEZA
i have a viper and i wont be going back to standard, im sure benr did individual tests on each filter and the viper was best

  A4 oil burner !!!
When i had my inlets matched Ben mentioned that there wasnt much in it up and till 200bhp then the OE item peaked but said the viper had a relatively small cross sectional area for air intake and needed v regular cleaning which can cause tears etc. Recommended the paper one and change it regularly as its alot tighter weave so gets clogged quicker. But i could be wrong.

CAF and an itg panel (and some interesting hose routing) does the job.

A ph1 airbox and ITG filter will do just as good a job as a BMC. Bit better than the mk2 box but at the end of the day the gains and losses are so minimal your really not gonna notice either way...

I borrowed a Viper for 2 wks when I had the 172 before going the ITG panel filter, as a standalone mod I found I lost low down torque and the 5k kick, had a decent CAF but maybe it was down to my installation, I dunno but I wasn't that impressed, ended up getting an ITG panel filter and def better throttle response

Now also got one on my 182, along with a diy CAF it now sounds almost same as my mates Viper

Total cost £60 and it's a 5 mins job to revert to std, If I was getting decat, inlets + remap though, I think I'd maybe get a BMC for £160

I found the exact opposite when fitting my Viper and CAF, was picking up better from lower revs

  Ph1
Folk dont know how to fit them right thats the problem. Decent CAF and ideally map the car to get the best out of it.

My old Viper sounded wayyyyyy nicer than the current Maxogen and the performance difference isnt much at all tbh.

Viper gave a noticeable performance gain over the standard airbox on mine

Vipers are s**t

I found the overall feel & construction of it to be average at best, it seemed a damn small filter too, seem to remember someone on here saying the surface area of the filter being small, on the face of it I think the BMC CDA would be the better buy but thats only my opinion and not based on having run one, although from pics I've seen of them fitted it does look a tight fit even after replacing the inlet pipe

got bmc on mine, it is a tight fit, running wise, ive lost bottom end pull, but it does seem to pull better top end, but then again i havent had it set up yet, time will tell when i do.

i was also told by my local tuning place, that the itg carbon kits are c**p as there a restriction on the inlet to the box, same with the viper, there told me the bmc was the one to go.

  audi a6 3.0tdi
i'm not saying the bmc is bad but did the shop you bought it from sell the other two filters?

vipers, like 99% of induction kits are garbage.

Always have been.

Get the standard box back on there and a decent panel filter!
