Do 172 and 182's have the same engine blocks?

So my engine went pop last night, just wondering if the blocks are the same on these engines as there seems to be more 172 engines for sale? Cheers

If we're talking ph2's, they aren't perfectly identical, but that doesnt matter as the important bits are the same. You can fit them between models I.e. 172 into 182 and vice versa iirc. I know, as I have a 182 engine in my 172 at the moment.

Okay thanks. Would it be any less power having a 172 block with 182 bolted on bits?

All depends on health of the engines tbh. But broadly speaking, no, you wouldn't lose power.

Okay mate cheers. I've heard 172 engines only make 165 ish on the RR when 182's make 175ish standard. I just wondered if that 10bhp is in the main engine block

The 10 horsies are in the 4-2-1 exhaust manifold of the 182 IIRC of course

Is the aux belt okay?
The aux pulley?


Normally if they go they take the timing belt with it

No mate both belts are fine, something else has gone bang just dread to think what!

No it turns over but it doesn't start or sound healthy, I'm thinking maybe it's a valve?

I'd imagine its 8 of them after being hit with the pistons when the belt snapped.

Both belts are fine, neither have any damage. I reckon a valve may have exploded
