I cannot decide whether i should buy some coilovers or not for my 172 Cup
done some research and searches but cannot decide. Money is not too much of an issue but i dont want to spend £350+ etc Thinking V-maxx group buy ftw.
(ignore other mods/tuning, focus just on the coilovers rather than....'you should buy X Y Z instead:nono:)

Are they really worth it? performance wise?
Will it transform the handling that much?
Are they worth the £350ish investment?
(Think of fast road use mainly and poss the odd track day)

1# Yes i need them in my life

2# No i should keep standard set up

3# This is the option for spammers who need to quench there spam fix as they have nothing useful to add

have to gather a little more info really ;) Is the standard setup past it's best? if the shocks are getting tired, then v-maxx are a good option. You need to go in a car with a set fitted and see if you like the ride really, as it's mostly a road car

v. good point D

standard set up is pretty good, think one of my rear shocks might be leaking a tiny bit though... have got the springs on there that lower it by like nothing but are firmer from ktec atm too so would sell these after.

just its money that i wont see back again. Quite against spending lots no cars.
Surely there cant be a HUGE diff between 350 and say £450-500 Gaz coilies?

£350 is my limit. for the sake of not spending bare on car stuff. seems to be a good balance between quality of product and price.

but would like to lower it a bit n if it improves the handling with the Vmaxx's that much over OE then i would go for it.

Hence do i need them in my life or not? :)

if your spending 350 on coil overs for handling then personally I wouldnt, if it was for looks then yes i would

A few people have already said it, but I'll add my personal thought,

I wouldn't touch coilovers for £350. Why are they £350? What benefit can they give over stock units (unless it's a genuinely new company just getting their name out there).

Wouldn't judge before trying. Both Fred and Danny have driven cars on them and been impressed (Vmaxx). Granted they won't be up to Bilstein/KW/H&R etc, doesn't make them useless though.

if £350 is the budget then stick to springs.

AST's are £800ish 2nd hand. H&R's can be had used for about £500. If you're not going near a track I'd go for H&R's.

If I wasn't going near a track I'd probably consider VMaxx's. But the guy mentioned wanting them as a performance upgrade.

Remember the 172 was designed with performance in mind and you're not going to find many entry level products that improve upon it greatly.

Fair enough, I've not tried them. But I'm guessing neither have you?

No I haven't fella, I don't even have a Clio anymore, but I'd definately want to try them properly before spending £350 (even though they're cheap on the scale of things) on the basis that two like them on an internet board.

At the price they are going out for, I'd imagine you'd lose very little if you didn't get on with them and sold them on.

I'd renue standard, £350 is peanuts to spend on coilovers!

My first set of coileys were fk's and ive always tried to stick with them, my golf has a set that cost a heavy 900 of the queens round pound but they are well worth it.
I've had the raceland ones before and there ok not adjustable damping and do sieze quick but there ok for a quick fix

cliokhunt, you seriously need to drive a car on v-maxx's, before you offer advice.

lets just say they are better that FK IMO !!
