Do You Have a Fluctuating or Low Water Temperture Gauge

  PH1 172 Sport
To cut a long story short I noticed a few week ago that the water temp gauge does not get to its usual halfway point and was fluctuating quite a bit but just put it down to the weather getting colder. MPG went down quite allot last week and the car was taking ages to warm up. Henk from fastchip was doing me a custom remap and noted that the cars water temp takes ages to go up and recommended a thermostat change.

Changed the thermostat yesterday and to say that the original has seen better days is an understatement! All the rubber was shot and crumbling and it was opening at about 75C when it should be opening at 89C.

Car is allot better now MPG is back up and its gets up to temp again. Fully recomend to anyone haveing similar problems to take a look at there thermostat. Its not a hard or time consuming job som well worth it IMO.

Yeh mines a bit like this. Do you have a rough guide on how to do the thermostat change? Looks like alot of pipes to me. Did you change yours yourself??

Cheers!

  My trusty lil 182 :)
Yeah mine fluctuates, but not all the time just occasionally. Not been any drop in mpg though. went to renault to change it under warranty and they wanted the car for a day, with me paying the bill because they were 'sure it was something more serious'. Got my rstuner coming so be interested in how easy it is to change myself too in case henk tells me i need to.

I'd be interested in knowing how to do this also as mine does the same. Started last winter and tbh only really notice it in the winter (it's just started doing it again). It never really gets to the normal half way point and does fluctuate under the half way line.

Old thread is old, where is the thermostat on F4R?

Just to the left of the airbox - you'll see a big hose going into the housing. The picture below actually highlights the bleed screw on the thermostat housing...but it'll at least show you what to look out for :)
