Does this sound like a brake fluid problem?

  ?
Hi,

Basically i've noticed when braking under all conditions (soft braking, hard breaking etc) sometimes I feel the pedal 'click' either before braking or during the braking. The only way to describe it is that it feels like a softer version of abs kicking in, but i know it isnt.

Could this be bubbles in the brake lines? I've had the pedal feeling spongy etc before during braking as well. Both problems happen randomly sometimes a few times in a row, sometimes I wont notice it happen for a day or 2.

If it is the fluid, how easy is it to change?

Might be worth getting your head in the footwell and having a look. Could be something obstructing the pedal.

Failing that, have the wheel off, caliper off and have a good look at the pads. If pads look ok, I would give the caliper a press out with it off of the disc, see if it comes out ok?

When was the last time it had a brake fluid change?

  ?
I've had the car a year and have never changed it in that time.

Pads look ok from memory. Although I will be changing them soon as they are getting low so was wondering if I should change the brake fluid at the same time.

Yeah well owrth doing pal, it may never have been changed.

It's easy really, buy yourself some new fluid, dot 4 should do you. There is a guide on how to do it if you have a quick search. The guide may be for a 1*2 but the principal is the same, just keep pumping fluid through and make sure you top up the res.

treat the car and buy it some new fluid, wont cost much and if it doesnt work, its a fault you can cross off of the list. its probably due one anyway.
