Doin' my head in ...

  RS Clio 172 Ph1
You blokes are doin' my head in :dapprove: I've had my 2001 172 for about 5 weeks now and am almost ready to sell and get myself a Jap. What's wrong with them? all I read on these forums is the problems that you all have, Brake Discs, rattling exhausts, cutting out etc. etc., etc., etc., etc. Surely they can't be all that bad! Okay so they go like F**k but so do Preludes, Intregrals, Celicas and the like but without the probs. Need reassure badly so I can sleep or the bugger's up for sale

  Megane 225 Cup
ive had no probs with mine (touch wood), but then its not a sport.... if nothing has gone wrong with urs then dont listen to what happens to other peoples ones.

  MKIII 138
ooh must add a MKII 172 being very early for the build mite be worse certainley 5yrs of hard driving on a £12k clio may also tarnish your view on reliability. also my old nxt door neighbour loves messing around with his race prepped classic e-type jag its part of the hobby i know most people have to use there car for work and pleasure so this is a moot point

but honestly some fukers just whinge looool !! :D

mate had a celica gt4 wrc, he's getting a 172. lots of people move from scoobs to clios. practical, quick and lots of fun.

who cares what other people say, its about the driving experience, nothing else.

Jesus, if you like it, keep it! Cars will vary with reliability, for example, my mate has a two year old BMW 320 he's had since new and its been back to the dealer 5 times already - its a pile of cr*p. I have a 12 year old Williams with which I've had no problems.

Best thing to do is use it regually and decide if its for you. Cant believe you need to post on a car forum to make up your mind if you want to keep the car. Have you had any issues?

  BMW E46 330i Touring
People do moan on here about reliability issues a fair bit, but not as much as people rave about the fun they have driving their cars. It's a cheap French hot hatch, it'll break down occasionally but you can rev the nuts off it and it'll keep coming back for more!

  Inferno 182 w/ Recaros ;)
Sell it then mate. You said yourself your caar is obviously going to break down due to all the bad threads on here.

Actually now you mention it, I think I might get rid of mine due to all the bad things written on here. Screw what my car is actually like, I'll listen to everyone else and not actually see if theres anything wrong with my car.

Jeez.

It all depends wheter u get a monday morning car, or a friday afternoon one...

i got a friday afternoon one... lol!

But after a few problems are sorted everythings out the way and u can get on with ownership, plus, its a sportscar, its driven hard, things will go wrong.

If life was simple we'd all be bored out of our tiny minds...

I moved from a Subaru to a Clio and I don't regret it at all.

Pop on some Subaru/evo forums and have a read.....I'm sure all the threads on det damage....melted pistons, bottom end/bearing destruction will be quite an eye opener.

I was lucky with my Jap import and had 2yrs of good motoring out of it....a lot of people aren't so fortunate.

What problems does your machine have?

  Turbo'd MX-5 MK4
i've had mine for 3.5 years from new, i've driven it hard from day one and its been faultless.

*** TOUCHES WOOD ***

They are no less reliable than any other mass produced car really. I know of people with Fords and Hondas with more issues than I've had with my Clio, and they've had far worse experiences with their dealers too.

Im sort of with you mate, if its not one thing its another....

After my MX5 and Scooby the clio just seems like its made of out plastic bottles and tin foil...

I find myself waiting for the next thing to go wrong!!!...

When its running right its a different matter

How can you decide on selling a car because of problems other people have had. I've had mine for 2 years now and apart from some real minor warantee (ok I cant spell LOL), mine has ran like a dream, its never let me down, never broke down and still makes me smile.

Every car model has its problems but you hear more about the problems because you are reading a forum where people might go to to try and find a solution to something that might be wrong with their car.

A lot of people touching wood in this thread.... i'll see you all later then.... LOL!

But look at the brand new cost of both those cars. People might criticise the build qualilty (I myself don't mind it at all) but you are comparing cars that are totally different IMO. (price wise)

My Clio feels so cheap since driving my mates M3 ! well.. it is !!!

I ve just joined this forum, im looking for another 172 because the 02 model i had was ultra reliable, i covered 54k miles in it. ok the standard exhaust was changed twice under warranty in the end i got a longlife stainless, it went through 2 rear wheel bearings, loads of pads and tyres, 3 windscreens due to stone chips. Dont worry they are as tough as old boots. servicing is cheap aswell!

Interiors in Subarus are c**p....my L reg was way, way worse than my 172 and as for the brand new 06 ones.....still as cheap and tacky as the old ones.

I actually think the 172 is pretty well nailed together....I may have a 'good one' though.

... first week I had it had to take it back to garage, found to be dodgy plug and apparently fitted 4 new ones. Second week alarm wouldn't stop going off, found to be a dying battery. Just now while driving around the block trying to find a parking space my warning light for Monitoring Exhaust Gas has decided to continously illuminate, which will probably mean a trip to the garage tomorrow. Part Exchanged a 5th Gen Celica to buy the Clio which I put 70k on and it didn't stop once, guess I was hoping to get the same with the 172.
