dosnt rev very high

  phase 1 flamer 172
My first phase 1 172 would easily rev round to 7,000 ish with a definite kick at 5,500 ish ( 105,000 miles) My latest just does not want to go over 6,000 with no kick (less than 60,000 miles) , apart from this it ticks over and runs lovely. The previous owner mentioned rs tuner, im not 100 % sure what this does, does it take from the top end and give to the lower rev range ? thanks.

First thing I would check is cam timing - if it has been set incorrectly (which 90% of non specialist garages do) then you could be down 20 or so bhp

It could be that your problem is thermostat / coolant temperature sensor related.

A 1*2 has 3 different rev limiters to prevent damage being caused whilst the engine is cold.

IIRC The first is around 6000 RPM the second at around 6800 RPM and the last one when fully warmed up at 7200 RPM. If either the sensor or the thermostat is knackered the car wont raise the rev limiter as either the coolant isn't warm enough (thermostat) or the ECU thinks it isnt (sensor).

Does you're coolant temperature go to the halfway point after a few minutes and not move?

This just stops revving, induction roar changes as i press down on the pedal but it just will not go over the 6000 mark
