Drive Shaft popped out of gear box!

  Civic Vtec y0

When changing the front suspension struts over on my mk1 the disc fell off the jack supporting it and the rubber garter split and the driveshaft came out! Now i have the driveshaft back in again but not sure if its correct, should it just be a simple case of pushing it back in and replacing the garter and filling the box back up with oil?

Hello, yea i have it all back in but havnt replaced the garter yet and it all seems quite tight but should it just pop back in as easy as that? managed 2 get the oil cleaned up finally as well lol

yes, but its a messy job, i assume its the passenger side youre on about????
It would be very messy if youd damaged the passengers side.

You can buy new gaiters from Renault there £10 or so I think but they were a pain to stretch to my car however smaller engine cars should be easier to fit.

A whole new drive shaft isnt that much often Id personally get a new one.

Thinking about it which gaiter is it? the inside or outside one?

lol I had exactly the same problem with a friends clio, on the inner gaitor which goes into the gearbox, was changing the passenger side spring over as his one had broken into 3 pieces.

Went to fit the strut, pulled down on the wishbone and the gaitor came away from the gaitor bearing itself... doesnt look like an original renault gaitor, more like a universal jobbie, which fits snug over the bearing and gets cable tied down to keep it secure.

Oil went everywhere.

Replacing the gaitor can be a right b**ch, as it means taking the circlip off to get the trilobes off. I was unable to do that on mine, and had to buy a recond driveshaft from GSF, for something like £40 exchange

oh sorry its the inner gator that has split, does this mean the drive shaft will have 2 be worked on 2 get it back in or as its sitting ok now, not moving about or anything does it mean the gator will just have 2 be replaced?

new gaitor about £30. you cant use the car now because your losing gear oil so you might as well take the shaft off whilst its jacked up. changing the gaitor is simple enough and youll need some gear oil (up to 3l)
