Driveshaft knocking on mk1 clio RT

On turning right, my driveshaft knocks like f*ck, but also when im reversing with left lock on theres a groaning and clunking noise coming from somewhere. Could this be the driveshaft aswell? And how will i know which side driveshafts knackered? Cos ive heard it could be either! Im hoping its only the driveshaft cos ill buy a driveshaft from eurocarparts and get my brother to fit it, then when thats fixed i can start spending on mods finally!

it might be your suspension mate. A lot of peeps have had a mod done supplied by renault. its called the AKTIS or ATKIS update. There is a thread on page 2 called how to fix a broken cup, refer to that. but im only guessing here, it might be wat u say, just givin my advice.

just to let you know my cars a 1995 mk 1 RT, just incase you didnt know... will this ATKIS thing still apply to me?

no no, try this... its always when turning right, not left, loads have had this trouble, as I did. Get your car on a ramp and look under where the gearbox mount it next the the bend in the exhaust just before the cat (think its before), the way the engine swings slightly when cornering it rubs and bangs the exhuast. Sounds unbelievable but Ill bet its whats causing the bother. This bugged me for a year before I realised fault. You should just be able to bend the exhaust slightly out of the way, or get a garage to do something with it.

would this also cause a groaning and clunking noise on the lock in reverse? cos in reverse on left lock its using the same side as when you turn right going forwards isnt it? if this is the case i could get that sorted no probs!

the noise really does sound like a driveshaft knocking though, sounds just about the same as the driveshaft on my 205 did. would the engine knocking the exaust make the same sorta noise?
