Dyno Day - Southend, Essex - All cars welcome even 4WD

Hi all,
After seeing the cancelled dyno day I posted on the thread asking if anyone was interested to try again and I got a few responses so I though I would see if there is still enough interest to do it.
I figure it would be a good to get a load of local clio owners together so everyone can see each others cars in action and get ideas for their own. My track car in the making 'Project Fast Frenchy' will be there for all to see, link to my project thread at the bottom.

A friend of mine owns a workshop in Southend, Essex with a brand new (so extremely accurate) 4WD Dyno. He specialises in Nissan's but works on all cars including my clio. Bob Heywood (owner of Torque of the South and GTI-R-US) is a very experienced mechanic and will be running the day at his workshop so if you are looking to do some mods to your car but not sure on the pros and cons ask him on the day.

There is currently no date set, but it will be a Saturday to increase the chance people can make it for now I am going to say Saturday the 3rd of October but this can be changed if it is inconvenient for too many people, full payment will be required 2 weeks in advance.

The price is £41.70 per car (cost breakdown below) and will include printout of BHP at wheels, flywheel and torque reading. +1s and watchers welcome. You can bring any car you like so invite you mates, although Clio's will probably get to go first, it is a clio forum after all (unless you bring a Nissan then Bob will probably overrule me :tongueout:). Every car will get a basic check before going on the Dyno to ensure there are no problems, he doesn't want your car spilling oil over his shiny new Dyno . There will be tea, coffee and biscuits provided for all.

There needs to be a minimum of 10 cars for this to go ahead with a maximum of 15 (may be able to increase if there is enough interest)

If you are interested PM me with the details below in red and add your details to the to the list below for everyone to see. When 12 people have added their details below I will ask for payment for everyone and update the list accordingly.

Full payment 2 weeks in advance to my paypal (tim.drake1988@googlemail.com) is the only way to get a space. As I do not want to have 15 names but only 2 show up as its not worth the hassle for the workshop. My name is Tim Drake (078 7575 8080) feel free to text me with any queries, I would advise putting them on the thread first as you will probably not be the only one with the question. You can also call / email / text / visit Bob Heywood to verify who I am and that I am acting on behalf of him to arrange this event, his details are below and on his website, also below.

So it's all clear, I am taking no commission or payment of any kind from this at all, just arranging it to help the forum as its been a brilliant resource for me in the past week or so since I started my build and to give some business to a friend who has also helped me out a lot. The dyno charge is £40 and the £1.70 is to cover the paypal fees. If you want to gift the payment that is up to you, but I would not advise gifting any payment to someone you do not know. You may pay by other means as long as full payment is received 2 weeks in advance of the dyno day, PM me for details of other payment methods.

Yes he does, it does stand out a bit lol. You will see it in some of the pictures on my 'Nurburgring trip' thread when I get round to putting some more up
Went out in it with him round Snetterton in the wet snaking down the straight [emoji14]

If I had passed my test already I'd be on this. See what my little 1.2 is pulling
Quickly book it up and pass  Are you insured on the car? Could always get a friend to drive it down or stick your L plates on and get someone in the passenger sear

What day would it be on? To lazy to scroll up and look. It's a tricky one, depends if I'm off and then depends if my sisters boyfriend is off :)

I my driving instructor says I'm ready but I failed my theory haha!

And currently on provisional insurance

If you have a driver over 21 in the passenger seat who has had a license over 4 years then you could drive up there on L plates, or just let them drive it up there. You don't have to worry about insurance to be on the dyno, the garage does all of that.

Date has not been confirmed yet as I want to see what is convenient for everyone, will be a Saturday in October or November though

That's what I do for experience. My dad or other family members sit with me on L plates and I drive around for the day. I'd there's enough interest and a set date I'll see what I can do.

Working in sales I only get 2 weeks rota at a time and due to the " holidays " we can't book time off when we want. I'll keep an eye out on this thread and see what occurs :)

3rd Oct is ok for me atm. What time we talking?

Hi mate,
Haven't sorted a time yet, but it will be an all day event, so 9-5ish, once we have a full list I will sort out AM or PM time for people. What would you prefer?

Quick update, the Dyno day will not be on the 3rd as my mrs has told me that I have to go to some family thing and can't the car as an excuse again. We can arrange it for any Saturday though, just need to get a few more confirmed to make it worth while. FYI I have just had my clio 172 on the dyno yesterday ready for today at snetertton. I got 179.07hp, not bad for a car that probably only ways 750-800 kg

Stick your names on the list, then once we have a decent amount of interest I will arrange a date to suit as many as possible.

I won't be coming now as I have a snapped spring meaning I have to get two new front or an eibach pro kit meaning its gonna be hard to convince the missus to let me do this as well lol

Once we have 12 or so people who are genuinely interested I will book in a date to suit as many people as possible.

On a side note, my mate Bob who runs the garage with the dyno had a go in my clio at Snetterton 300 on Thursday and loved it so much he has decided to go any buy one himself. He will soon be joining the forum, possibly as a sponsor, so keep an eye out for him.

I'm well up for this. Had the car for a while now and wanted to get it on the Dyno for some time.

We are going to need a bit more interest to make this viable, so start enticing your friends to come a long so we can meet the minimum number required.
Cheers,
Tim

Mine is a daily so I am a bit reluctant to put stiffer mounts in. However, in a few months, I would like to retire it from daily use and keep it just for fun, meaning stiffer mounts would suit it well. Damned if I do, damned if I don't!

I noticed precisely no difference in my Vibratechnics drivers side engine mount compared to the standard and a tiny weeny bit uprating the dogbone. Do it.

I shall consider giving them a go. Not the cheapest things ever mind. Need to do something though, I think my engine wants out of my car lol.

Does make a nice difference but i think my gearbox one needs doing as my exhaust still knocks on very hard acceleration
