Well after moving the exhaust about i've managed to make everything fit without this angled flange on the cat. I just have the exhaust side of cat sleeved into my centre section now and its doing fine! I fitted the cat first upto the manifold and then put the exhaust on after. Seems to work fine that way!
The stupid 182 cat keeps catching the speed hump at work. Is it safe to put a hanger in on the front section where the cat and manifold is to pull that part of the system up a bit???
Still getting vibrations. It crossed my mind today that I have the entire manifold exhaust wrapped, would this be causing the vibration to transfer to the mani??
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! I see now.... lmao
No wonder the whole system sags more than it used to.... well, seeing as I`ve just recently decat it using the 182 decat...is there also a decat available with the modification in to fit it to a 172 system...as your pic above??
Although that picture doesn`t explain why the manifold is still vibrating the hell out of me... lol, i`ve tried pulling the engine forward about 3 times now and I can`t get it anymore forward.... It is kinda awkward to see where its touching too, if you look over the back of the engine I think its the right hand side secondary thats brushing the subframe...
As for the manifold, don`t know what you guys think. But my mechanic friend reckons I should get a slightly shorter dogbone fabricated which would in effect pull the back of the engine up(towards the bulk head) and lift the manifold up slightly, this would lift it off the subframe.
Don`t know what implications there would be on doing this though??
Had the same problem with a second hand Ktec 182 mani and de-cat, must have been crash damaged and bent down towards rear of the mani so when tightened fully at the head the mani was pulled hard onto the subframe so that the engine would not move and when driving it sounded and felt like I was sitting on a 50 cal. I solved it cowboy style after a bit of head scratching and cut the plate off the 172 mani ground and filed it flat and smooth as possible without the use of a mill and used it as a ported spacer sandwiched between two manifold gaskets using liquid exhaust gasket on the ground spacer to ensure sound seal. Then I mounted and tightened the 182 mani. This made it reach just past the subframe before last step down bend, the engine could now move freely with the mounts slackened off. Then I moved the engine on the mounts to ensure the mani cleared the subframe and ARB but when I fitted the dogbone mount the engine/gearbox tilted back down the way and moved the mani onto the ARB behind the subframe now. So cowboy style again I removed the dogbone mount and used a shorter piece of square bar drilled it to fit and mounted engine/gearbox on it again this stopped the tilt and hey presto all solved, sitting straight and at the right height no vibration at all. What a bugger of a job in the end, thought it would only take 3 - 4 hours and ended up taking my whole Saturday and half my Sunday, the guy on ebay I bought it off owes me a weekend . Still very happy with the end results, much better throttle response and pull especially on the uphill punts, not sure how much the mani helps and how much the de-cat though. Anyway on with the JMS matched inlets now and off to RS Tuning in a few weeks for a new map, hope it holds together on the drive down from Scotland.
I am just about to attemp this job but am now having second thoughts.
To people who have done it, is it worth it in the end?
With a standard Clio 172 cup I've done a 14.7sec qtr mile at crail so from reading this thread I guess that is quite uncommon? Got the timing slip to prove before the doubters come out! lol:rasp:
As long as your manifold isn't bent, the job is a lot easier than I thought it would be and I would have finished in about 3hrs for the lot. I got an extra 15mph over my usual on a short uphill stretch and that is on the same engine map plus when MOT time comes around it is far easier to get the de-cat section off (about 10mins) to pop in a cat section made up from your old one (I'm a cheap arse). That's how I'm looking at it anyway but it's always good to know a friendly MOT tester!

If you plan on using a cat for every day running use the 182 it is better quality but if you have a de-cat section and this is just for passing an MOT when it comes around just use what you've got, my 172 exhaust was cracked before the cat anyway so I just chopped it up.
