ecu codes, scanner, obd

HI I am new here, i need some help with my mate clio 1800cc 16v mk 1, thinks its 7p engine code thingy...

Problem is its failed MOT on emissions test....

Co 0.80, no lower, hydrocarbons low 88ppm

so i thought it would make sense to drop in here , hopefully get some useful information..

i am looking for any info relating to scanning software, ecu obd software, or a simple stand alone ecu code scanner, as i believe the problem lies in a sensor failure, not wishing to remove all sensor to check it would make sense to check ecu for error code.

so one of you helpful guru's here should point me in the correct direction..

cheers

DaJon

thanks for all the replies.

the owner initially replaced the oxygen sensor: still unacceptable emissions. hmmm :S
followed by a test drive/ good rag up the road to get the cat up to operating temps...

emissions are now acceptible. i believe the vehicle previously had been left stood for a while.

None Renault sensors are usually the cause, only the Renault ones work well universal ones are usless in Clio's
