ecu upgrades

I have some money to play with, and a yearn for more power.
My car is a mk1 172, lowered, with stainless exhaust and induction, and now, after minimal research, i think i've settled for the bb performance tuning renaultsport grpN chip.
What i'm asking is, has anyone had any experience of this mod? is it worth my 380 sheets?
I've seen it on their website, and it looks quite promising.
Please bear in mind that my next step will be uprated brakes and a de cat (for flames and popping and banging!)
Any advice would be so appreciated!!

Mind the grpN does not give you any increase in BHP, your better off going for a dastek or a SMT6. Speak to BenR or Andy

That will be OK for the mods you have now and your decat.

If you want to do anything else, cams, manifold match etc. get an SMT instead this will allow a map to be setup specifically for your car. £500 I think for an SMT so not much more.

What do you guys think of the Morego Star*Chip? is that a good remap £350... when i phoned them they said if i had anyother mods done they would put the car on a dyno and tweek the map for an extra £150...

if i'm not gaining bhp, what am i gaining?! Apart from a smaller bank balance?!

Hello gary! What sort of gain am i gonna get from a chip and a decat(along with the other bits) mate? and can i not go chip 1st then decat? as my mot is up end of next month, so was planning a decat after that

150-200 for a dastek, so not far off that i'd imagine??

Dan, depends mate.....yours might be a fast one and may not pick up alot. Think the mk1's had really poor manifold castings tho so may be an idea to get Ben at AngelWorks to sort that out for you. PM BenR and he'll tell you more about it. I would just wait till you have got the MOT out the way mate....then get decat, manifold match and SMT6...should see around 185ish, hard to say when its comes to figures really.

Yup Andy charges around the £150 mark for RR session and SMT6 remap.

They may well be a few SMT's for sale on the 2nd hand market soon as people may upgrade to an omex standalone

Or you could try a Paul Murray remap. +5bhp and + 12/14lb/ft proven for £275.

If you have an IK and large exhaust (2.5 inches) the ecu would work well.

It's not a remap, it's a new direct from Renault. So you have one spare.

I'm waiting for one now, I have done a RR, and will be doing another once installed.

I can let you know how it went if you like?

If I was in the U.K, I would see the guys mentioned above (Andy and Yozz), they know what they are doing, and you can tell they like doing it.

I'm even thinking about sending them my inlet manifold, freight will kill me from Australia I guess...
