Hi all not been a member long but thought i would post up a project thread. Let you lot see whats happening and i like to see peoples thoughts on things too. I know there are a lot of helpful guys on here who can point me in the right direction with things too.
Anyway Bought my 2nd 172 last month as i wanted a change from the 306 GTi6 scene. last car what i still have now is a 306 3.0l v6  Love the car but too much hassle maintaining it and keeping it on the road!
Owned a 172 a few year back but didnt end up keeping it long but then again i dont keep things long anyway haha.
So i got myself an 02 plate 172 in black with 72k miles on the clock. Had no tax or test and get it for a bargain at £950 i would say. The car was totally standard with a few bits and bobs what needed doing for the MOT.
Had a snapped spring, front pads were just about gone and both ball joints needed replacing. Sorted all that straight away, fitted some 40mm springs for the time being and gave it a good clean. Here with my v6 306
So time to spend some money on it... 1st off i got an RSTuner, RON 98 over run map, Stainless decat, New lambdas and a stainless exhaust. Exhaust came off a mates old phase1 and at the time i didnt think there would be any difference but the hangers missed the bushes by about 2" and stuck out the back a good way so that wasnt staying on.
Had mate cut 2" off the front of the middle section and now the whole exhaust sits nice and snug.
Then last weekend i was up at a mates when we herd someone skid then a big smash! looked out the window and seen a car fly off down the street so we went out to see what was going on to find someone had smashed into the front of my car and drove off!!! Called the police and they did not seem interested in the slightest!
Didnt wast no time the next day, stripped it down to see what the damage was, I was lucky, wasnt as bad as i thought it was going to be. A/C rad saved my heater rad so just pulled all the air con out as there is no need for it to be honest, never gets hot enough in this country anyway haha. Front cross member was bent in, managed to pull it out a good way, not all the way but its not too bad, Everything seems to line up ok bar the drivers headlight, i can fit my finger tip between the headlight and the bonnet
While the car was off the road i got a few other bits and bobs in too:
Flocked dash, center console, A pillars and steering column cover - Fitted yesterday
Sparco Circuit bucket seat (driver seat)
Sparco Evo bucket seat (passenger seat)
Battery relocation kit - Fitted yesterday
Also took the BMC CDA filter off the 306 - Fitted before the smash!
Thats as far as i have got so far. On the look out for some subframes and side mounts for the seats, Ordered a full braided brake line with with wilwood bias valve to run through the car.
Booked up for croft in June and i have been thinking of going up to knockhill next month too so need to find a set of track wheels next... Will update once i get a bit more done.
Enjoy
