Electrical fault: Rev & water gauge, auto lights and one press EW stopped working

  182 Trophy
As per the title.

The rev counter, water temp gauge, auto headlights and one touch functionality of the electric windows all died at pretty much the same time.

I'm guessing that perhaps it's an earth fault, but has anyone else come across this before?

Its not a common problem no and an earth is a good guess but the clockset and mono-lever are seperate ciruits with a common link... the UCH! Has anything else been done recently?

Is the UCH the one under the cup holder? I noticed that was hot at the time.

This happened once before (minus rev counter) but it magically fixed its self a few weeks later.

About an hour previous to it going I refitted my dash top and steering wheel surround. I guess I need to pull that off and check I've not caught a wire.

Self fixing cars? That's not gonna be good for business! No, the one under the cup holder is the SRS module but yes, you should pull the topdash off again and inspect the clockset wiring for anything obviously wrong especially as it was all fine before hand.

The rev counter and level guages themselves aren't UCH controlled but the signal is CAN so could be the problem.

Oh, I was led to believe there is no CAN on the Clio? Do you know what else is on the network?

Thanks for your help, I shall check the wiring out.

So everything is CAN except the OBD port?

I've been researching this and the most I could find out was the OBD port was ISO 9141.

Do you know of somewhere that a CAN line is easily identifiable, to hook in to?

Just noticed this morning that the abs light is up an the heated rear screen isn't working (or at least the light on the cluster isn't).

Solved.

The problem turned out to be that I'd mangled the wires for the steering angle sensor when screwing the shroud back on.

Now shortened and taped well out of the way. :)

The ODBII port is also CAN mate and has CAN H and CAN L lines alongside the diagnosis lines. The protocol changes depending on age but most were KWP2000 iirc. This is why the non-CAN generic readers from Ebay no longer work as the CAN network links all the systems.

Glad you sorted it though and that it turned out to be something simple.

Are these CAN lines on the standard pins? (14 & 6?)

Do you know if there is a gateway filtering messages at the OBD port?
