engine blown yesterday!

  mk 2 172
i was going up ahill yeturday on the way home, put my foot down to overtake a parked car, and all of a sudden sounded like someone had put a bag of bolts into my engine. so pulled over as you do, caled aa and towed to a freind of a freinds garage. he had a look at it today and is 90% sure the fan belts snaped and wraped around the cambelt because the cams are still turning. the is also hardly any compresion.

my guess is to buy a s/h engine. but i cannot afford to pay the £600 labour charge to fit it. is it the sort of thing i can do with a freind we are both pretty good mechanics whise and have acess to all tools needed.

if you rent an engine crane you should be able to do it yourself just make sure you make a note of where the wires go etc before pulling it all to bits

Ring the belt manufacturer or whoever did the work. Worth a shot!

Engine swap is easy mate, plug and play!

f**king hell, makes you think tho, whats the point in changing it if it went so soon.......any comeback on this, for it to snap after only 10k???

^^ i think that is often the way, poeple swap the belt and leave the same tensioner kit.

My tensioner squeeks on start up, never thought much of it tbh. Might look into it now!
