Engine Conversion

Car  Renault Clio 1.2
I am thinking about doing an engine conversion on my clio from 1.2l to 2.0l, now i know it would be easier to buy a 172 or 183 but i love my car and would rather keep her and just give her a bigger engine. i was just wondering if anyone has tried this before?

Been done loads, but your car is just a lump of metal, you'll love a new one just as easily, especially with better interior, better brakes, cheaper insurance than a converted car, better suspension and a nicer looking set of bumpers etc.

As chip has said, its perfectly do able to fit the engine, but be aware you will need a lot mors than just the engine, as you will need to upgrade the suspension and brakes to cope, and bearing in mind a 172 can be had for 1000 pounds +, it would end up costing you more than that to get t up to 172 'spec' and then due to it being modified it will cost more to insure than a 172 too.

Years ago, It was financially beneficial to do the engine swap as the cars were fetching thousands but nowadays it's financial suicide to do a conversion on a non RS imo

Indeed the only way it makes any sense financially is if you are the sort of person to then lie to the insurance and dvla and pretend its still a 1.2, which has got idiot written all over it of course!
