I've searched the forum but can't find anything about this....

I've had all 3 mounts replace about 2 weeks ago, and under hard acceleration in 1st and 2nd gear, there is a load of knocking coming from what sound like the bottom of the rear of the engine. (!?)

Its doing my head in....

Is this still a mount problem? Would Poly' mounts cure this? Can i even buy poly' engine and g/box mounts? Is there such a thing?? Or is there something else i'm overlooking?? maybe an exhaust mount??

Someone please help me otherwise i'm going to drive the thing into the local Canal...

Poly mounts are b**ch o fit arnt they?

I swear i saw a thread by Fred the otherday about the Cure for knocking ( soz if im wrong)

The top one and.... the bottom.... two??? Sorry dan, i just sell the s**t, got no idea on the mechanicals.....

Lemonnobby1 off here did it, i'll ask him hold on....

right, well theres one on the drivers side attached to the cambelt cover, then theres the dog bone underneath, and the lower gearbox mount which bolts through the subframe, just basically a block of rubber!!

the battery tray mount is the main one for causing knocking i belive, or, you can try adjusting the rear mount bracket, as it moves more than it should!

which 1 of ur cars is this on?? i changed me gearbox dog bone mount yestaday (well gdi did lol) for a poly bush 1 n its makes the whole dash n car rattle on idol, makes it sound n feel like a right beast. took them about 5 mins to do. p.s the gear changes r so much easiler n smoother now. sorry i can`t help more i use buy the stuff lol

Where's the rear mount bracket mate?

Underneath, find the dog bone, then there is a black meta bracket that attaches through the gearbox, there are 2 16mm bolts that go through this, undo the dog bone, then loosen both of the bolts on the bracket, swivel it towards the front of the car, then tighten as much as possible, then reattach the dog bone, if its worked you'll need a hand with someone pulling the top of the engine towards the front to move the bracket trowards the dog bone.

foxon, my 172.

Dan, cheers mate, i'll give that a bash tuesday night. If it doesn't help, expect a pm! lol

A Renault mechanic told me that the exhaust can knock on the rear of the sub-frame. Not sure if this is true but if you check around the rear there should be marks were is was knocking if this was the case.

mine knocked on the sub-frame but thats cause i hav a 182 manifold, don`t anymore wiv the gear box mount
