Engine/gearbox whine?

good morning folks,

quick question, when accelerating in first (not harshly just normal) for the first few thousand revs i can hear a mild whine type noise. ive read a few posts and tried to establish what it could be myself but with no luck.
Is this a general/normal sound or problem sound?

I have this at the moment....can hear it in gears 1 to 3 when windows down

im going to change the gearbox oil and see if that helps...im pretty sure its the gearbox and not the engine

Mine does it slightly when I first start up, gearbox feels fine when changing, no clunks or harsh sounds/feelings

Aux belt kit. They're quite whiney aparently. No need to worry. Mine does it, it sounds a bit like a supercharger.

Cheers dan! Heard if that snaps it can cause havoc with the cambelt though?

I've just had a new aux belt at Renault and ever since I get this too. Seems to be worse after starting and then quietens downs to a gentle whine that I can only hear when not moving.

Mine also does this. At first I suspected the aux belt, but after having the belt, pulley and tensioner replaced it still makes the noise.

When listening closely it seems to come from the bottom of the engine, so my next suspect is the gearbox. I'm going to try changing the oil to see if this helps. Doesn't seem to be causing any problems but its annoying to have the sound there.

It could be the gearbox syncros being worn.

One suggestion... If it is the box don't get one from Renault! See my thread in the Dealer / Trader review section.

Just changed both engine and box oil and noise is no different so im ignoring it now
