engine management and insurance help!!!

  1998 BMW e46 323i
Just got my car back from garage after repairs for damage incurred from reversing into a telegraph pole!

Guy from garage, an old boy drove it to my house 8 miles away. The car's mileage shows it's only been driven 8 miles since i dropped it off for repairs 2 weeks previously.

Now the hatch doesn't appear to sit flush, the panel gap on the off side is greater than that on the near side. I wasn't happy, but thought I'd have a think after looking at some other clios tomorrow. He said he would take it away and fix it to my satisfaction. But then I thought he'd take it home and be using it as his runaround...

So I took car and went for a drive to where I'm staying at mo. Firstly there was no power, then the engine management light flashed, then it stayed on. The car seems to be running on 3 cylinders.

Rang the AA, who sent a guy to confirm this and tow me.

What should I do now?

Bung it in Renault Dealers who'll fleece me for all my savings and my first borne or see if a garage up the road can sort it; AA man said it could just be an HT lead.

Car's a 2001 172.

And in terms of the panel gap, should I be so picky? The AA guy spotted the panel gap and wasn't overly impressed.

Any constructive comments welcomed.

If the gaps wrong then take it back and get it sorted , your not being picky you just want it as it should be .

Looks like its back to Renault to check out the problem . Could just be a coincidence that the engines gone titsup while it was in the garage , but it obviously needs sorting by somebody who knows what they are looking for .
