Engine mount under battery..

Hey guys, had a search and found a bit of info but not enough, basically my gearstick moves backwards and forwards when coming on and off the power, had a look at my dog bone mount and all seems perfectly fine, however from the top pushing the engine drivers side is firm, passenger side moves a fair bit... so wandering if anyone can tell me a rough step by step on changeing it and what tools i would need .

Any pics would be great too

Cheers

There are two nuts holding the mount into the tray under the battery and one big nut holding the gearbox to the engine mount.

You will need to support the engine and gearbox while removing it. Pretty straight forward one person job.

Ok found a picture

Do i just undo the three bolts in view whilst the engine is supported ?

The main thing i noticed is when turning left, the car feels like its jumping if that makes sense when pushing it really hard only though.. dont know if that could be anything to do with it at all ?

Thanks Legohead

anyone confirm what i should be looking for and what the hopping/jumping when pushing hard could be

Pic of my mount after removing battery etc, havent took centre nut off but am i right in thinking they shouldnt be oval shaped like the picture shows..?

Also found this snapped bracket, could that have anything to do with engine movement ?

  182 has now gone!
That snapped bracket is a common problem... (think its the uch unit bracket) cant be replaced, so just stuck mine together with some tape...

Wouldnt be anything to do with the engine mount prob....

Engine mount there is the gearbox mount, looks fine to me. The picture is different as yours has another rubberised cover over the metal.
Check that the main nut is tight and try tighten it a bit more to see if it is loose.
Then tighten the other bolts back up and it should be fine.

Don't think you can't see if it's gone until you take it out iirc. I've seen pics where they are split on the bottom side.

Ok, does everyone else's 172/182 have movement in the gearstick ? Like when you let on/off the power can you see the gearstick or feel it move forwards and backwards ?

Reanult engine mounts are fairly soft so you do get a bit of movement. My old 182 had loads of movement.

As long as you cant hear or feel any knocking under hard accelerationI would not sorry too much.

I just changed mine last week (all round) . It was the one under the battery that made the most difference. Still the stick moves btw, only less..:dapprove:

going to try to put some extra washers on/between that one, when i tightened the centre nut while mounting it he rubber part was also twisting when tightening up, felt like it needed a bit more but did not want to damage the new rubber

Yes you can buy new covers, about a tenner. I have to check my engine mounts as I have a horrible vibration at high revs, been told its engine mounts!

Just to confirm that it is very difficult to see if the engine mount has gone. Even after I removed both of mine I couldnt really tell if they were knackered. But after fitting the new ones all my knocking has gone.
