engine mount

i have been told i need to replace the top right engine mount on my 16v,i thought it was f**ked, any one done this,is it very hard?and how much for the part? and where?,i will be changing it myself as i cant really afford ren garage prices, any info will be great help!;)

Its not as bad as you would imagine. Renewed all three on my valver and it wasnt anywhere as bad as I thought. Get a jack with a piece of wood and take weight of engine mount on that side, sump is sound as its not really the full weight of engine and box going onto it, just use a piece of wood or something to protect it. Then take cover off mount (torx bit), and then undo all the bolts underneath on top part of mount, youll probably need a deep reach socket get them, i did. when you lift this off, youll see the rubber part of mount (bit to replace). Mark the edges off it, so you can put new one in exactely the same position, aiming to get where it bolts to body, and where it comes through to top part the same positions as old one. Then checking weight is on jack, whip mount off, and put new one in, in relation it to where old one sat. Tighten them, then put top part on (this part is an alloy casting), and tighten that down. Replace cover. You might have to move power steering reservior before all this but it simply clips into place so can be pulled to side, without having to undo any hoses etc. Let us know if any problems. Haynes manual says you are supposed to take measurements and retorque all mounts when any of them are disturbed but when replacing just the one mount only, just make sure it goes in exact spot old one came from. Have Fun
