Engine rattle on British Mini

well, i know its not a clio but this one really is doing my box in.
got an '88 jet black mini. low speed and revs knocking noise,
gear box seems ok,
engine mounts and bushes are sound (replaced already)
but no cure,

any suggestions, answers on a postcard etc etc.........
