thanks for that mate, iv checked all the connections, and still no joy, everything lights up on the dash and the red immobiliser light flashes fast, a while back i disconected the alarm due to a fault, by removing the fuse under the dash, would that cause issues ??, also during the time my car was off the road, my keys got run over, and broke was without a battery for 2 weeks, but the board inside the fob was fine, it still lights up and works the door so i guess this aint an issue

Thanks
Shaun

I had same problem, when I was using jump leads to start the car (from battery to connection points to save putting the battery back in the car), I then connected battery directly to to car and engine fired up, just an idea if you are not already doing so.

Will be an earth to test it get a big cable clamp it to the engine battery - if it starts you need to find the missing connection, had same thing on one once the exhaust was glowing bright red lol

I had a similar problem turned out to be the gearbox earth strap (by the lower mount) while your at it check the one above the n/s drive shaft.

How did the key get broken? There is a chip on the board that's fragile as f**k.

it got ran over by a car, the case smashed, , on the board, the arial for the fob broke off as did the switch to lock/unlock, but iv replaced both and the key works, unlocks and re-locks the car, iv checked all the tracks on the board and they are also fine,

and im assuming it isnt an earth issue as i hooked a jump lead from the battery to the top end of the engine

it getting quite irratating now having spent all that cash on another engine and now its in , nothing

Thanks

isn't this just something to do with the immobilizer? did the key get reprogrammed properly? I thought the flashing light was the immobilizer, excuse the Z's i'm using Chrome at work.

Not sure if you know but 1 earth strap is not just to control 1 item so putting a earth on the engine will not work in the same way, i've stripped the protective tape around the loom and traced wires that was not needed and a lot of things go to a join where others come into it and go elsewhere so acting as a loop so 1earth strap/wire can be used for any number of things.

The immobiliser shouldn't need programming if he used the same ecu/uch to the key he had originally.

As said it's the key

There is a little tiny black transponder chip in the key case that is read by a pickup ring around the ignition barrel - if it can't read that chip the immobiliser won't turn off

Also that is controlled by the ECU and has nothing to do with the alarm - the alarm is just a cheap bolt-on.

You'll need to get a key coded to your car

yeah, from what iv been reading, its most likley the key, was looking online at an immobiliser bypass that plugs in under the ash tray its gonna b cheeper than getting a new key programed, anyone had any experiance with these??

Thanks

I hate them... and you'll need to declare it to your insurance company. Honestly, just bite the bullet and get a new key fob supplied (£90) then get it programmed (£45 at most) as you already have a working blade.

been looking at other options, can get a blank key here quite cheep, then get a local locksmith to come out and program it, that could work out a tad cheeper

:D
