Engine short circuit - now will not start

  Clio 197
The wires to the VVT solenoid on my 58 reg 197 have frayed causing a short circuit - I witnessed a big spark and the car stopped running. I have repaired the loom and now everything (lights etc) behaves as normal except the starter motor does not turn. I have checked all fuses in the fusebox, and the auxilliary one under the lower dash panel and in the UPC fusebox at the right hand side of the battery and the main large fuses in front of the battery box - all are OK. Have I missed any other fuses? Is there a reset button anywhere? Could the immobiliser have been affected or does this turn off other circuits as well? Car has key card.
Grateful for any help to avoid recovery cost and main dealer bills! Thanks

Have you fixed the issue with the wiring? Is the immobiliser active on your dash?

Hi, Wiring fixed. I am not with the car now however from memory the immobiliser light flashes when the car is locked, is permanently on when I try to start the car and the spanner sign on the dash also comes on. Thanks for any help.

Where are you located? Sounds like a wiring issue causing the ecu to say there is an issue hence immobilising the car. Signal tolerances are quite fine. Have you checked relays? Are you positive all the fuses ( most likely the big ones)?

Try resetting the immobiliser

Get in the car
Shut the door
Ignition on
Press and hold the door locking button on the console
Press the throttle pedal all the way down at the same time
Wait for a beep
Take finger off button
Take foot off throttle slowly
Put ya foot all the way down on throttle once more and release

Iirc there are some fuses under the UPC. Try them

Problem solved! 20 amp fuse blown in bottom row of fuses in the UPC unit. I did not initially see that there were two rows of fuses as the bottom ones are covered by a black plastic flap to keep the weather out. Thanks to those who helped with this problem, Cheers Howard

This is a pretty common issue on the 197 and well worth taking note of should anyone else have a perfectly functioning car besides the starter. Clue is if it bump starts it's 99% this fuse that has failed.

We had a customer that Renault wanted to charged £1200 odd to replace the UPC because of this!
