my williams is in the garage, the engine is almost out, but it has no oil in it, and hasnt for a couple of weeks. its gonna be stood for a while so what should i do to prevent it ceasing and or keep it in good health???????? any ideas
First thing is to take the plugs out and squirt some clean engine oil into the bores and turn it over by hand then put the plugs back in. Its easier to do this if you can turn it over with the starter. This will stop any moisture from rusting up the bores. Good time also to remove the sump and clean out any crap inside and replace with a new sump gasket. You can also oil the bottom of the bores from there too if need be. Other than that just keep turning over the engine by hand every few weeks whilst stored. If you can keep it in a warm dry environment all the better, especially at this time of year. Hope this helps!
cheers mate, so i take it i dont put any engine oil in, just turn it over, any lube the bottom of the bores, next question, sounds dumb but what oil should i lube them with?
No probs m8. I presume the sump on your Willy is cast aluminium (he he)? If its steel just coat the inside with oil after cleaning out with detergents to keep it from rusting. Just leave the sump dry. If you put oil in there it will serve no purpose other than deteriorate.......just remember to put some in before getting it going again!! (doh!) ......Oh last thing, stick some old rags in all the open orifices (oooo errr!) or seal up with bags/tape to keep out that dust and spiders!
